Not saying I agree with the guys method of changing the oil but my Trailblazer takes 7 quarts when changing the oil AND filter.

The 4.2 I6 in the trailblazer/envoy does take alot of oil actually, 7 quarts.

Still, that being said, if he put 4 quarts in without draining he was either 3-4 quarts low prior, which is mind blowing, or he over filled it.

Yeah. The huge cloud of smoke pouring from the tailpipe and the smell of burning oil sort of gave it away...

This is EXACTLY why I leave the oil changes to my mechanic. Their shop changes the oil and filter, checks and fills all fluids, checks tires and rotates if needed, plus helps with any other minor repairs I need between oil changes. And if the oil gets low between changes or the tires need a little more air, all I have to do is pull in and they'll fix it. It's worth way more than the charge for routine oil change ($24.00)!!!
