My fastest speed in a car was 160 MPH on a two lane country road in Ohio. I had just gotten an old Mercedes and I wanted to see how fast it would go. It was a 1971 280SE with an inline 6 cylinder engine. It took about two miles of WOT to get that fast, but the needle just kept moving up, so I kept flooring it. When I got home, all four of my tires had the tread missing on them. I was driving on the steel belts. The fastest I have been in my Monte was while I was on a platoon function to Amarillo Texas, my friend sprayed my car with gravel while leaving a rest stop. I eased my car out onto the road and waited about 15 seconds. Then I floored it. I passed him doing about 140 mph in third gear. I was afraid for my tires and my passengers to push it any further than that. My platoon Sergeant was in the vehicle that I passed and called me on my cell phone immediately to find out how fast I was going, because my friend claimed he was going 120. That was before I put the work into the car.

How fast??? But I got a ticket for 137MPH Over the Speed Limit, back in the day when it only cost me $285 and 4-points on my driver license. Today... I don't even want to think about the cost, loss of driver license, etc...

I went 130 in my Monte Carlo one night... there was this big construction zone with 1 lane, and the car in front of me was scared to run over about 40 mph, which made a huge opening in cars. When he moved over at the end, I just put the throttle down, and in 1.5 miles, I was at 130 mph. I was about 800-900 yards from a pair of 18 wheelers, who were in turn about another quarter-half mile from my exit ,and I had to let off because I was scared of how fast I was approaching them. I could smell oil when I got out of the car a few miles off the interstate at my house, hehehehehe..... haven't smelled oil since, fastest I ever intend to go.

Hi `Duane,
Thanks for your post & letting `off @ 130 MPH
How fast to you `Think your Race Inspired Torino will `go ?
What is the fastest you've had it so far since your restoration ?
How does your Torino compare to your Monte as far as speed, handling, etc ?
Wish you & reader a Happy Day & Safe/Fun/Fast miles : )

Well My Monte has a stupid speed limiter, so 107 is the fast i've been in it.

I had my Dad's Mustang up to 130 MPH before...maybe even 135 MPH.
