Chalk up another win for the boys at Hennessy Performance and the state of Texas, as the crew became the first to hit 200mph in a 2014 Corvette Stingray. Like its previous top-speed testing, Hennessy once again utilized a closed section of the Grand Parkway, on the west side of Houston.
As far as the Texas Department of Transportation, Texas Department of Public Safety, and TransCore were concerned, the C7 was testing the EZ Tag toll system on a section that connects I-10 to Highway 290. But for Hennessy it was the perfect opportunity to see the potential of an additional 240 horsepower. The 7-speed manual-equipped Z51 was outfitted with the HPE600 package, which boasts 603hp at 6500rpm. Hennessy says the naturally aspirated combination is capable of 0-60mph times in 3.5 seconds and quarter-mile blasts in 11.3 seconds at 127mph thanks to ported cylinder heads, long-tube stainless steel headers, a custom camshaft, and tuning. However, for the top speed runs, a Nitrous Express kit gave an additional 100hp shot of giggly gas needed to hit 200.6mph (as measured by the GPS-based Racelogic data logger).
Follow along as driver John Hennessy puts the C7 into high gear, and fulfills your fantasies of going all out on a public highway.
