Default Help me buy insurance

So I just got my second speeding ticket and I'd rather pay for it all myself like I did with the last one but I can actually make it to court for this one so any help with that would be nice.

Anyways, I decided that I want to take myself off of my dad's insurance as I don't want to have him pay for my mistake so now I'm in the market for some insurance of my own but have no idea as to what to look for.

Anyone want to help educate me on auto insurance?
So far in the three years I've been driving I've only had one accident on our property due to some bad weather and some lawn decorations being to close, and then the two speeding tickets that combined with the fact that I'm male and 18 I'm pretty sure I'll get screwed one way or another and I'm just looking for some advise as to what to look out for.

lol first of all calm down. at 18 i had 4 exabition of speed tickets and i cant even remeber how many others for drag racing and also getting cought n the interstate at 100+

for the ins.
look around for a ins. company that you can trust. (this is harder then you think when dealing withh krooks lol )

best thign to do actually is talk to the guys your threw now with yoru dads comapny and ask them if they can write you a policy in your name instead of his.
I did this also and found that i could get a better price then i could on my own. When you trun think it is 25 the rates drop a bunch if you keep your nose clean.

also if you plan to go in to the service or reserves etc... go look at usaa. i have heard good and bad about them but i can honestly say with my car they have been great when the one was stolen i had a check in hand in less then a week.
now thier contractors sometimes have a lot to be desired but the ins. co. has been great help.

also once you find one stay with them dont hop araound the longer you are wit them the better the rates get
you can pretty much garuentee that you will be high risk for at least the next year or so due to the tickest. they dont like speeding tickets .

i had good luck with all state as a young kid due to them dealing with me and actually treating me like i was human and not just another kid.

good luck

No matter what you do ... at 18 years old ... with two moving vio's ... you are going to get a rude awakening on how much your insurance is going to cost. You might very-well be refused by some company's out-right!

When you find a Company that will write you a Policy ... you will have to Pay a surcharge for being an "Assigned Risk"
Google: Assigned Risk ... to understand what that means to the insurance company.

You'll get basic coverage to let you drive. Your deductible on damage will be probably be a Grand.
They'll keep your Policy in the Risk Pool and if you get another ticket within 18-months ... you set slapped with a higher premium or dropped and have to turn-in the plates.

Why?
Because there are too many 18 year olds ... speeding and getting into accidents ... causing the insurance company's to pay-out big money to settle the claims.
That's the picture. It is what it is!

You ought to work-out something with your family to stay on the policy ... and PAY the increase in premiums to his policy instead of the shocker you're in for when you price a policy for yourself!

So you're the reason my pefect-driving record insurance is higher, eh God-Bot? No, I'm just teasing you. Rick, you're exactly right. With 2 moving vio's you'll be lucky if someone will insure you. I know in MI drivers your age (i'm only 21, so drivers my age with tickets/accidents too) have only one choice. Titan. It's a high risk insurance and it's expensive. Good luck and I hope you find some good rates. For full coverage w/ a $500 deductible 100/300 coverage on our '05 Malibuand basic insurance (PLPD) with comprehensive on the Monte, I pay just over $200 a month. That isn't TOO bad.

i could have sworn i had typed up a post and it was here last night.. now its not... o'well

Garrett... even Geico said "We can't save you any money on car insurance!!" [sm=icon_rofl.gif]

(sorry, couldn't resist)

On the more serious note, contact the police station and ask when the next Defensive Driving Class or Traffic School is being offered... what ever it is called in Wyoming. Sometimes this can take a ticket off of your record. It may help when you go to court to tell the judge that you took the defensive driving course. Your best bet is to also pray the officer gets sick on his court day. Then you'll have the defensvie driving that will knock your insurance down and no ticket

My parents were with Allstate for years... 2 accidents in 20 years and they payed out more than expected both times. I'd have to say you are in good hands with them.

You can humble yourself and take Driver's Education. That's good for 20% off the Total Cost of getting insured. But, the fact that you are so young and have two mover's on your record are going to get you in the High Risk (Plus surcharge) area of premiums. You can't beat the system. Even if you had NO tickets you'd still be looking at the Assigned Risk for coverage.

I wish there was an easier way. But, until you get older or have a clean driving record for 3 years ... they are going to be tough on you!

Yeah, I plan on going to court and seeing if I can't get it knocked down to 80 or 85, or maybe work out some sort of deal to get it dropped.

Dad told me he's going to keep me on his for now as he remembers all the one's he got in his " 'Stangs, Impalas, and Novas" as he said. So I lucked out there.

Now all I can do is wait for the court date to show up and see how it turns out.
