GM Recalls Camaro, Saab, Sonic, and LaCrosse

DETROIT, Michigan – General Motors has announced another round of recalls, this time for 511,528 Chevrolet Camaros, 28,789 Saab 9-3 convertibles, 21,567 Chevrolet Sonics, and 14,765 Buick LaCrosse sedans.

In all of the recalls, customers will receive letters from GM letting them know when they can bring their vehicles into a dealership, where the recall repairs will be performed free of charge and courtesy transportation would be provided as needed.

Chevrolet Camaro Recall

GM will recall all current generation Chevrolet Camaros because a driver’s knee can bump the key FOB and cause the key to inadvertently move out of the “run” position, with a corresponding reduction or loss of power.

The issue, which may primarily affect drivers sitting close to the steering column, was discovered by GM during internal testing following the ignition switch recall earlier this year

“Discovering and acting on this issue quickly is an example of the new norm for product safety at GM,” said Jeff Boyer, vice president of GM Global Safety.

The Camaro ignition system meets all GM engineering specifications and is unrelated to the ignition system used in Chevrolet Cobalts and other small cars included in the ignition switch recall.

GM is aware of three crashes that resulted in four minor injuries that it believes may be attributed to this condition.

The company will change the Camaro key to a standard design from one in which the key is concealed in the FOB and is opened by pushing a button. The change will make the ignition key and FOB independent of each other, so that inadvertent contact with the FOB won’t move the key from the “run” position. There are 464,712 Camaros from the 2010-2014 model years in the U.S. included in the recall. Including Canada, Mexico and exports, the total recall population is 511,528.

Saab 9-3 Convertible Recall

28,789 Saab 9-3 convertibles from the 2004-2011 model years for an automatic tensioning system cable in the driver’s side front seat belt retractor that could break. If the cable were to break, seat belt webbing spooled out by the driver would not retract. The convertibles and sedans were investigated at the same time, but the convertible parts were not identical to the sedan parts. GM has since learned of customer complaints to the NHTSA for the convertibles. Dealers will replace the driver’s side retractor in the recalled vehicles. In addition, GM has issued a special coverage, so that if the same repair is required to the passenger side retractor it will be covered for the life of the vehicle. GM also extended the special coverage for passenger side belt retractors on the 2004 Saab 9-3 sedan from the original 10-year coverage to the life of the vehicle, like the convertibles. GM is unaware of any crashes, injuries or fatalities due to this condition.

2012 Chevrolet Sonic Recall

21,567 Chevrolet Sonic 2012 model year compacts equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission and a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine for a condition in which the transmission turbine shaft may fracture as a result of a supplier quality issue. If this were to occur in first or second gear, the vehicle could not upshift into third through sixth gears. If the turbine shift fractured while in one of the higher gears, the vehicle would coast until it was moving slow enough to downshift into first or second gear. In both instances, a malfunction indicator lamp may illuminate. If driven in this condition for a long period of time, all forward gears may become inoperable. The engine would continue to run and all power accessories would function. Dealers will replace the transmission turbine shaft. GM is unaware of any crashes, injuries or fatalities related to this condition.

2014 Buick LaCrosse Recall

14,765 model year 2014 Buick LaCrosse sedans because a wiring splice in the driver’s door may corrode and break. That may communicate incorrect information to circuits that control the door chime and allow passenger windows, rear windows and the sunroof to function when the vehicle is turned off and the driver is not in the vehicle. In addition, a chime will not sound when the driver’s door is opened if the key is in the ignition.

Dealers will inspect the driver door window motor harness and, if necessary, replace an electrical splice. GM is unaware of any thefts, crashes, injuries or fatalities related to this condition.

General Motors Recall List

Is your vehicle under recall?

Posted: May 22, 2014 updated 6/13/2014 | By: AOL Autos Staff

The 2014 Chevrolet Cruze, which is currently under recall (General Motors).

It seems General Motors can't go more than a few weeks without issuing a major recall. Since the initial ignition lock recall on February 10, over 15 million vehicles have been recalled for defects.

We used the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall list to compile a snapshot of all the GM vehicles recalled in the last two months. NHTSA also provides a search engine that allows owners to search for recalls on their vehicle.

An automotive company must do everything in their power to notify its customers when a recall is issued on a vehicle. If you own any of the following vehicles and you have questions regarding your car, you can contact Chevrolet at 1-866-694-6546, GMC at 1-866-996-9463, Buick at 1-800-521-7300 and Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339. Or check out General Motor's recall site.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to www.safercar.gov.

Here's a brief summery of the vehicles currently under recall:

May 21 – 1,339,355 cars affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V266000

Models under recall:
Certain model year 2009-2014 Buick Enclave vehicles manufactured April 14, 2008, through May 14, 2014, Chevrolet Traverse vehicles manufactured June 6, 2008, through May 14, 2014, and GMC Acadia vehicles manufactured April 9, 2008, through May 14, 2014, and 2009-2010 Saturn Outlook vehicles manufactured April 14, 2008, through March 18, 2010

Problem:
In the affected vehicles, the flexible steel steel cable that connects the seatbelt to the front outboard seating positions may fatigue and separate over time.

Consequence:
If the steel cable becomes fatigued and separates, the seatbelt may not properly restrain the seat occupant increasing the risk of an injury in a crash.

Solution:
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, repair and replace the lap pretensioner.

May 21 – 218,000 cars affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V261000

Models under recall:
Certain model year 2004-2008 Chevrolet Aveo vehicles equipped with daytime running lights (DRL)

Problem:
In the affected vehicles, there may be heat generated within the DRL module located in the center console in the instrument panel, which could melt the DRL module.

Consequence:
If the DRL module melts due to the heat generation, it could cause a vehicle fire.

Solution:
The remedy for this recall campaign is still under development.

May 21 – 19,225 cars affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V259000

Models under recall:
Certain model year 2014 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured June 10, 2013, through February 26, 2014

Problem:
If the vehicle is turned off with wiper functionality left on and the wipers then become restricted, such as when covered in ice or snow, and the vehicle's battery goes dead and needs to be jump started, upon being jump started, the wipers will be inoperative.

Consequence:
An inoperative windshield wiper system may decrease the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

Solution:
dealers will replace the front wiper module.

May 21 – 1,402 cars affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V259000

Models under recall:
2015 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV vehicles manufactured April 6, 2014, through May 13, 2014.

Problem:
In the affected vehicles, the air bag module is secured to a chute adhered to the backside of the instrument panel with an insufficiently heated infared weld. This may result in only a partial deployment of the front passenger air bag in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

Consequence:
In the event of an accident, an air bag that only partially deploys increases the risk of occupant injury.

Solution:
Dealers will replace the instrument panel right side upper trim panel.

May 16 – 2,440,524 cars affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V252000

Models under recall:
2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009

Problem:
In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.

Consequence:
Any of the above failure conditions increases the risk of a crash.

Solution:
dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position.

May 16 – 103,158 cars affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V251000

Models under recall:
Certain model year 2005-2007 Chevrolet Corvette vehicles manufactured March 29, 2004, through June 22, 2007

Problem:
In the affected vehicles, the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC) housing can expand and cause the headlamp low beam relay control circuit wire to bend. If the wire is repeatedly bent, it may fracture causing a loss of low beam headlamp illumination.

Consequence:
The loss of low beam headlamp illumination will decrease the driver's visibility, as well as the vehicle's conspicuity to other motorists, increasing the risk of a crash.

Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the UBEC housing unit.

May 16 – 8,208 cars affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V240000

Models under recall:
2014 Buick Lacrosse vehicles manufactured January 29, 2014, through March 31, 2014 and 2014 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured February 7, 2014, through March 31, 2014, and equipped with 17 inch front brake rotors.

Problem:
The affected vehicles may have had brake rotors intended for the rear of the car accidentally installed on the front. The rear rotors, while the same diameter, are thinner and may result in a front brake pad detaching from the caliper.

Consequence:
If a brake pad detaches from caliper, there may be a sudden reduction in braking, lengthening the distance required to stop the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.

Solution:
Dealers will inspect the front brake rotors, and install the correct rotors with new brake pads, as necessary

May 15 – 140,067 cars affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V247000

Models under recall:
2014 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured June 12, 2013, through May 2, 2014, and equipped with a 2.5L engine with the auto stop/start option.

Problem:
The affected vehicles may experience a complete loss of brake vacuum assist, disabling the hydraulic boost assist. As such, these vehicles do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Consequence:
If the hydraulic boost assist is disabled, slowing or stopping the vehicle will require additional brake pedal effort and a lengthened stopping distance. Both of these effects increase the risk of a crash.

Solution:
Dealers will update the electronic brake control module software.

May 14 – 477 cars affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V246000

Models under recall:
Certain model year 2014 Chevrolet Silverado vehicles manufactured May 23, 2013, through March 25, 2014, 2014 GMC Sierra vehicles manufactured May 25, 2013, through March 31, 2014, and 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe vehicles manufactured January 29, 2014, through March 27, 2014.

Problem:
In the affected vehicles, the tie rod threaded attachment may not be properly tightened to the steering gear rack.

Consequence:
An improperly tightened tie rod attachment may allow the tie rod to separate from the steering rack, resulting in a loss of steering, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Solution:
Dealers will inspect the inner tie rods to make sure that they are correctly tightened, replacing the steering gear, as necessary. NOTE: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until they have been inspected and repaired. Owners should contact GM to have their vehicles towed to the dealership.

May 6 – 56,214 cars affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V224000

Models under recall:
2007-2008 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through October 31, 2007, and equipped with a four speed automatic transmission.

Problem:
In the affected vehicles, the transmission shift cable may fracture.

Consequence:
If the transmission shift cable fractures while the vehicle is being driven, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, the driver will not be able to shift the lever to the "PARK" position, or remove the ignition key. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Solution:
GM dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket

May 5 – 51,640 cars affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V223000

Models under recall:
(Vehicles manufactured March 26, 2013, through August 15, 2013)
2014 Buick Enclave
2014 Chevrolet Traverse
2014 GMC Acadia

Problem:
In the affected vehicles, the engine control module (ECM) software may cause the fuel gauge to read inaccurately.

Consequence:
An inaccurate fuel gauge may result in the vehicle unexpectedly running out of fuel and stalling, increasing the risk of a crash.

Solution:
Dealers will reprogram the ECM to correct the fuel gauge reading, free of charge.

May 1 – 50,571 cars affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V212000

Models under recall:
2013 Cadillac SRX vehicles manufactured May 29, 2012, through June 26, 2013, and equipped with 3.6L engines

Problem:
In the affected vehicles, in certain driving situations, there may be a three to four second lag in acceleration due to the transmission control module (TCM) programming.

Consequence:
A three to four second lag in acceleration may increase the risk of crash.

Solution:
Dealers will reprogram the transmission control module, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule.

April 1 – 1,340,447 cars affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V153000

Models under recall:
2004-2006 and 2008-2009 Chevrolet Malibu
2004-2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
2009-2010 Chevrolet HHR (non-turbo)
2010 Chevrolet Cobalt
2008-2009 Saturn Aura
2004-2007 Saturn Ion
2005-2009 Pontiac G6

Problem:
In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.

Consequence:
If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Solution:
GM currently doesn't have the parts in supply to fix these problems. Owners will be notified beginning later this month when they can see dealers for replacement parts.

March 31 – 489,936 vehicles affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V152000

Models under recall:
2014 Chevrolet Silverado Light Duty Regular Cab, Double Cab, and Crew Cab 1500 series
2015 Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe
2014 GMC Sierra Regular Cab, Double Cab, and Crew Cab 1500 Series
2015 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL

Problem:
The subject vehicles may have a transmission oil cooler line that is not securely seated in the fitting.

Consequence:
If the line is not securely seated and transmission oil leaks from the fitting, the oil could contact a hot surface and cause a vehicle fire.

Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the transmission oil cooler line connection and repair the vehicles, as needed, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on April 28, 2014

March 31 - 174,046 vehicles affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V151000

Models under recall:
2013 and 2014 Chevrolet Cruze vehicles equipped with a 1.4L turbo engine, and manufactured between November 28, 2012, and March 7, 2014

Problem:
On the affected vehicles, the right front half shaft may fracture and separate.

Consequence:
If the half shaft fractures and separates while driving, the vehicle would lose power and coast to a stop. If a vehicle with a fractured half shaft is parked without the parking brake applied, the vehicle could move unexpectedly. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.

Solution:
GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the right half shaft, as needed, free of charge. Parts for the remedy are not currently available. GM will send an interim letter to owners the week of April 28, 2014. A second owner letter will be mailed when parts are available. Some vehicles subject to this recall were subject to the recall campaign initiated in 2013. Some of those vehicles were repaired using defective parts. Those owners will be advised that they must have their vehicles remedied again under this campaign and that having the earlier recall completed did not remedy their vehicles

March 27 – 656 vehicles affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V144000

Models under recall:
2014 Cadillac ELR vehicles not equipped with adaptive cruise control and manufactured September 26, 2013, through February 14, 2014.

Problem:
In these vehicles, the electronic stability control (ESC) system software may inhibit certain ESC diagnostics, preventing the system from alerting the driver that the ESC system is partially or fully disabled. As such, these vehicles fail to conform with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."

Consequence:
If the driver is not alerted to an ESC malfunction they may continue driving with a disabled ESC system which may result in loss of directional control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Solution:
Dealers will recalibrate the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM), free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on April 17, 2014.

February 10 - 2,190,934 vehicles affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V047000

Models under recall:
2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt
2007 Pontiac G5
2006-2007 Chevrolet HHR and Pontiac Solstice
2003-2007 Saturn Ion
2007 Saturn Sky
2008-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt, Saturn Sky, and Pontiac G5 and Solstice
2008-2011 Chevrolet HHR

Problem:
This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring.

Consequence:
If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Solution:
Dealers will replace the ignition switch, free of charge. Parts are not currently available to fix this issue. An interim notification was issued to owners of 2007 and earlier models on March 10, 2014, informing them of the safety defect. Until the recall repairs have been performed, it is very important that customers remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the vehicle key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring.

March 17 - 1,176,407 vehicles affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V118000

Models under recall:
2008-2013 Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia
2009-2013 Chevrolet Traverse
2008-2010 Saturn Outlook

Problem:
In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the driver and passenger seat mounted side impact air bag (SIAB) wiring harnesses may result in the SIAB and seat belt pretensioners not deploying in the event of a crash.

Consequence:
Failure of the side impact air bags and seat belt pretensioners to deploy in a crash increase the risk of injury to the driver and front seat occupant.

Solution:
Dealers will replace the affected harness connections with soldered connections, free of charge. GM has not yet provided a notification schedule. Note: Vehicles repaired as part of Customer Satisfaction Campaign 10085 and special coverage 10335 have already had the subject condition repaired and therefore are not included in the safety recall.

March 17 - 63,903 vehicles affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V116000

Models under recall:
Certain model year 2013-2014 Cadillac XTS vehicles manufactured February 14, 2012, through March 7, 2014.

Problem:
In the affected vehicles, a cavity plug on the brake booster pump connector may dislodge allowing corrosion of the brake booster pump relay connector.

Consequence:
The corrosion of the brake booster pump relay connector may cause a resistive short and melt the connector, increasing the risk of a fire.

Solution:
Dealers will apply sealant to the connector cavity plugs, re-route the vacuum pump vent hose and replace the front body wiring harnesses as needed, free of charge. GM has not yet provided a notification schedule.

February 21 – 355 vehicles affected

NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V092000

Models under recall:
Certain model year 2014 Buick Regal, LaCrosse, Verano, and Enclave, and Chevrolet Impala, Malibu, Cruze, and Traverse, and GMC Acadia vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions.

Problem:
The transmission shift cable adjuster may disengage from the transmission shift lever. As such, these vehicles do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 102, "Transmission Shift Lever Sequence, Starter Interlock, and Transmission Braking Effect." They also fail to conform to FMVSS number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."

Consequence:
If a vehicle's shift cable disengages from the transmission shift lever, a driver may be unable to shift gear positions and the indicated shift position may not represent the gear position the vehicle is in. Should a disengagement occur while the vehicle is being driven, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, the driver may be able to shift the lever to the "PARK" position, but the vehicle transmission may not be in the "PARK" gear position. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Solution:
Dealers will inspect and replace any affected transmission shift cable adjusters, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in late March 2014.

Details of GM's 3800 Model Engine Recall

Less Than 6 Percent of 25 Million Engines Under Recall

Sometimes the scope of automotive recalls can make it seem that every vehicle equipped with a particular part is suspect. But there might be no reason to panic if you're driving a car that carries a part affected by another car's recall.
The example of GM's 2009 recall of 1.4 million cars with 3.8-liter V6 engines also carried in millions of other GM cars is similar to many other examples from other car companies.
Ford has issued a series of six recalls in the past decade that cover more than 14 million cars and trucks equipped with a potentially faulty cruise control switch that can short out and cause a fire. In March 2012, BMW announced a recall of 1.3 million 2003-'10 BMW 5 Series and 6 Series cars because a malfunctioning electrical system could lead to a fire.
That adds up to a lot of cars. But it pales in comparison to the number of vehicles that automakers sell in the U.S.: 182.3 million from 2000-'11 alone, according to Edmunds data.
GM built and installed more than 25 million of the 3800 model V6 engines in its vehicles between 1975 and 2008. The V6 was one of the company's most popular engines for many years and is included on the Ward's Automotive list of the best engines of the 20th century. Less than 6 percent are listed in the recall.
The vehicles covered by the GM engine recall were outfitted with the 3800 Series II design, manufactured between 1995 and 2004. They were identified in two phases. A 2008 recall of 207,000 vehicles applied only to turbocharged 1997-2003 Buick Regal and Pontiac Grand Prix models. The 2009 GM recall expanded the list to include more than 1.2 million normally aspirated versions of several GM models including the Grand Prix and Regal.

Here's the full list:For both GM recalls, the danger comes from engine oil catching on fire after it has been spilled or leaked onto the hot surface of the exhaust manifold. If the oil catches fire, the flames can spread to plastic parts including the spark plug wiring channel and the upper intake manifolds and engine covers.

Hi Admin 'Mike,
you may have to get your key hole changed or remove everything from your key chain ?.

I sure hope GM starts getting it right before they put their products on the road....GM sure isn't along on the recalls 4>Sure.

p.s. I think GM should also give customer's a free oil change > buy lunch or fill `up a owner's gas tank for the time a owner has to use going to the dealer for a GM Mistake ? I think GM dealers service departments are going to be Super Super busy (?)

The latest recall covers the 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse, 2006-2014 Chevrolet Impala, 2000 to 2005 Cadillac Deville, 2004-2011 Cadillac DTS, the 2006-2011 Buick Lucerne, the 2004 and 2005 Buick Regal LS and GS, and the Chevy Monte Carlo from the 2000 through 2008 model years.
GM says dealers will add an insert to the car keys to change the hole from a slot to a circle. The company says that until the repairs are made, owners should remove everything from their keychains and drive with only the key in the ignition.
GM also is recalling 166,000 other cars for a series of many other problems.
