Ok well just went and talked with the mechanic. He said I can get it with the cam and heads I want. I will be getting a GM LS1 Hot Cam specs 219/228, Maximum Lift: 525/525, Lobe Center Line: 112

It will have the corvette heads, which flow a lot better then stock and a 5 year 100,000 mile warranty for 4300.00 including shipping both ways and a 350.00 core charge which I will get back. Install would be about 700-1,000. Horsepower would be about 430.

I also could just go stock motor plus bolt ons for 2900.00 including core and shipping with a 5 year 100k warranty. 350.00 core would be refunded same install price and about 365 hp.

If I went stock I could drop the car off next week and have it done in about 2 weeks, otherwise I need to wait until the end of January. I am not concerned about waiting, just about price. Which way would you guys go??

Not sure, I can get an LS6 for 3500.00 but only a 12 month warranty. I am going to drive the snot out of this motor so that is why the 5 year warranty is so intriguing to me. I am thinking I may go base engine and I can always add a cam or heads later. I really just want a driver.

65hp for about $1400
65 hp for $1400 = $21.54 per hp

option 1
About $5300 installed ect
5300-350÷430= $11.51 per hp

option 2
about 3900 installed ect
3900-350÷365=$9.73 per hp

i think you could easily spend that $1400 difference on heads, cam, ect ect and end up about the same hp i'd say just bite the bullet and get the one with the vett heads and such becuase figuring in Installation you would probably end up with more than $1400

hope i did the math right

Justin your math is right and I would really like to do the more expensive option, just worried about not having a job and things not looking any better next year. It is hard to decide and I appreciate your help.

But if you go 5 year and then do a cam later, will you still have the warranty?
