I really like the seats, but I think it looks like a modified `Accent
Just as Ford Motor Company is preparing to introduce the global Ford Focus design here in North America, there may be a new performance model already on the way to build some excitement for the economy sedan and hatchback. The Ford Focus RS500 will be officially unveiled on Wednesday, but Ford released some important details for the sport-tuned hatchback courtesy of a Ford minisite called focusrs500.com. Although the minisite mentions only European availability, it is odd that Ford would choose to launch the car on the same day that the 2010 New York International Auto Show kicks off.
Last week, Ford posted a teaser video of the upcoming RS500 showing the car being run pretty hard around the Lommel Proving Ground in Belgium, and now it has released some details and images about the upcoming hot hatch. Judging by the 90-second video Ford released, the Focus RS500 will benefit from numerous performance and handling upgrades including brakes and shocks. Building on the performance of the Focus RS, the Focus RS500 features 350 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque from its 2.5-liter inline-5 engine – a power increase of 15 percent compared to the Focus RS. This vast improvement was achieved by upgrading the controller software, adding a larger intercooler and giving the car a bigger, free-flowing exhaust system. In the end, Ford claims the RS500 can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in less than 5.6 seconds with a top speed of 163 mph.
The sporty RS500 three-door hatchback stands apart from the already proven RS with its matte black exterior paint job and the blacked-out 19-inch wheels. Peeking out from behind the large wheels, performance-tuned brake calipers help improve the car’s styling and performance. Inside, the Focus RS500 also gets a sporty look with bright red leather seats with Recaro buckets up front. As for the 500 in the name, the RS500 will be limited to just 500 units and each model will receive a metal plaque mounted on the center console with its unique identification number (001 through 500) engraved on it.
“From its stunning looks to its intoxicating performance, we have no doubt that the RS500 will be appreciated and quickly snapped up by performance car enthusiasts,” Joe Bakaj, Ford of Europe vice president of product development, said on the car’s minisite.
According to a map showing the intended distribution of the RS500, Great Britain will be allocated 101 units of the tuned hatchback while smaller countries such as Denmark and the Czech Republic will get only five. Ford will release additional information on the car on Wednesday March 31, 2010, and it still hasn’t ruled out offering the sport-tuned Focus RS in the United States. The redesigned 2012 Ford Focus is set to go on sale next year and should finally give Ford a modern C-segment car to compete against the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic. The Focus RS could be a strong competitor against cars such as the Honda Civic Si, Mazda MAZDASPEED3 and the Subaru Impreza WRX.

Yes Space, I would have to agree with you - if I were to purchase a sub compact again, it would have to be a Mini Cooper S again!! I do miss him though - he's living in Columbia MO now...

I LOVE the new SHO - I swear I would never buy a 4 door, but if I had the money I think I would seriously have to get one. I looked at one at the local Ford dealership and it is incredible!!!

..I personally don't like the SHO 4 the $'s
Highs, Lows, and Verdict
Highs: SHO-worthy engine, effortless acceleration, quiet refinement, low-profile performance.
Lows: Dull steering, tame handling, brake fade, big-boy curb weight, occasionally too adult for us & KidSpace : )
The Verdict: An agreeable car that mixes horsepowerful bliss with occasional moments of boredom.
I don't like moments of boredom when I driv'in
