Thanks everyone for the kind messages and thoughts. One of the things that will help is I don't need COBRA, as LadyT works for the state of MI, so insurance isn't an issue right now. The teaching job doesn't look promising, but I'll find out more maybe Friday. Doesn't start until fall semester. VERY part time.

Road trip time tomorrow. Driving our Pastor to Mayo Clinic for his checkup. Be back Thursday. Giving his wife and kids a break.

I'll keep everyone posted.

C'mon with all the "shovel ready" jobs out there you'll find something in no time.

Alright, back to reality. Sorry to hear about the health and job. It might be a good time to start your own business of some kind. Write off everything new that you buy and get a specialty shop going of some kind. Radiator specialist or something.

Default An update: COLLEGE HERE I COME!

Well, it's been over 3 weeks now, with no luck in the job search area. It's a good thing that I've been doing an alternative: I've been looking at going back to college for re-training using the Michigan Works "No Worker Left Behind" program, which, if everything pans out, will pay up to $10,000 over 2 years in tuition and books, and defer requirements of looking for employment while attending school. And if things work out, I'll get on a federal program, and receive 130 weeks of unemployment and $12,000 of tuition. That looks promising, but everyone in the world is an idiot when it comes to the TAA/TRA program. Doing EVERYTHING myself, basically. This requires 3 of us that are laid off to petition the Department of Labor to have our ex-employer certified for the TAA program, because of tooling being sent overseas to be built.

So while not employed, I have been extremely busy getting things around to start college in May. Going into computers: CIS IT/Networking, and maybe programming. I will end up with TWO associate degrees (because of previous college classes transfering), and programming would be a 3rd, but an extra 15 credit hours.

When doors close on you, you have to look for other doors you can open, and stay positive through everything. Not sure how all the bills will get paid, but at least I'm not sitting around on my tush.

Wayne, looks like you have a great plan. I have to start thinking about a career change - Graphics and printing is a very tough field even when the economy is good. I might have a possible job interview at a place that prints large format. Unfortunately it's 25 miles from my house. It is good pay and I need benefits so if they offer me the job I will go for it. I want to have money to do my exhaust and save up for the paint work that needs to be done to both of my cars.

Good luck, I have Associates in Network Specialist, Technical Support Specialist, A+ Certification, Network+ Certification, and my MCSE. Not a thing available in about 2 years.

My last job was 51 miles away, and usually 50-60 minute drive each way. The pay was great. I'll probably never see that kind of money again. The drive sucked. It put 100,000 miles on the Intimidator SS in 3 years.

I've been looking in a 50 mile radius for decent employment. This college thing is the door that has opened for me. Two degrees instead of one.

Good Luck Wayne!

Being able watch Detroit's tv stations, and watching the Detroit news everyday, I see how bad Michigan's economy is. The disaster happening in the automotive industry has affected Michigan's entire economy much worse than a lot of other states.

I'm confident that Michigan will re-invent itself, and be back better than before.
