the main reason the 3.9 has 242 hp is because of the variable intake. im not sure youd be able to bolt a sc to something like that without having to go down to a stock manifold. and then of course you lose the main reason you put out 242hp. it would be sick interesting to see tho if it can bedone

I know this is waaaay late, and the thread kind of strayed...lol....but what about gear ratios? If the Impala is geared higher than the S/C MC, then wouldn't the MC have better acceleration because of the lower gear, but lose out on top end? (I'm JUST learning about how gearing works...lol) I don't know the gear ratios right off the top of my head though.

Being someone that sold the Impala SS, Monte Carlo SS, Pontiac GXP, Pontiac GTO, Corvettes, SSR, Malibu SS, Cobalt SS, I think I have a good understanding of all these cars.
I have driven the Monte Carlo SS 3.8 Supercharger, and the 5.3 V8. I also know the different between when the cars are running 93 octane and 89 octane and 87 octane gas. A lot of dealerships use 87, even in theirHigh-performance vehicles -- Sad but true. While it is true you can spin the tires easier on the SS 3.8SC, but a lot of that has to do with the Tire Size and the Traction Control Systems. But we use to race all the cars (sorry to inform you of that), especially the High-Performance cars to see what each could do and which was truly faster. We even had a 1/16, 1/8, and 1/4-mile markers we put along the road. I will tell you that a Cobalt SS will tear the doors off all the high-performance cars in the 1/16 of a mile.
I will also tell you, the 3.8SC will kick the 5.3SS in the 1/16 to 1/8 mile, but after that, that V8 blows it away. The Cobalt SS and the Monte SS 3.8SCare a great race, but the 3.8SC wins, but it is a close race. In all the races we did, the 5.3SS beat the 3.8SS by at least three cars lengths in the quarter.
I am more impressed with the Cobalt SS. Pound for pound, HP for HP, Price for Price, theCobalt SS is theBAD TO THE BONE winner.

Someone always have somethig better than someone else. Can't we all just appriciate what we have and count our blessings we are not driving POS's? I could be a lot worse.
