Does anyone know why Taz is the mascot for Monte Carlo?

It all began in 1995
It all began in 1995 you can find the Taz driving the Monte Carlo, The Monte Carlo had been on hiatus from 1989 thru 1994, and the Taz thing was all part of Advertising. (I believe it began with addressing your wild side). TV Commercials would show Taz behind the wheel of the Car and then some one would emerge cool calm and collected. Then in 1999 they merged Dale Earnhardt with Taz into some Commercials. they were kind of fun in Pit stops and He would turn into Taz if he was bumped (kind of like the HULK). The in 2000 they did more of them. My Favorite is Taz is Driving the 3 Car and Dale Jr is riding shotgun Dale Sr. is in the Back seat telling Taz how to Drive. Ya, that's what he would do, I met him and he was fun and wild. Any way the next scene shows Dale Sr. behind the wheel Taz in the back seat, He says to Taz and Dale Jr. " Now hear, there are 2 ways to do this! There is my way and the Wrong Way" (Youtube taz Monte Carlo commercial and see it), anyway Chevrolet signed on with Warner Bros. for Taz and your see them on Special edition Monte Carlos.
There is also a Team Monte Carlo decal with Taz on it. Part of the Nascar deal. There was also the Monte Carlo 400 Race and all the Chevy Cars that had some of the Loony Tunes figures on them. Hope that is helpful.

Looney Toons themes have been used on quite a few cars throughout history. The Plymouth Roadrunner used Wiley Coyote and RoadRunner. Many of the Plymouth Superbirds had the runner on the corners of that big tall fin.
