GM has actually been making the modern-day El Camino for years in Australia. They own a company in Australia called "Holden". If you look up the Holden Ute, that is the modern El Camino:

Holden is the company that brought us the last generation of the Pontiac GTO (originally the Holden Monaro), also the Pontiac G8 and the Chevy SS. Possibly other cars as well.

Nice looking for sure, just not my thing. Like a lot of trucks now a days, the 3 ft long bed is useless. If it had a 7 foot bed they may have something out of the norm that could actually be used for something other than transporting a sack of potatoes home from the store...

 

I honestly have not kept up-to-date on Holden. I know the company website is still out there. As for factory, not sure. Last I checked, the UTE is not in the current line up. My big point is that GM has had the modern El Camino for years and never released it in the U.S.....

 

I really liked the Pontiac G8 and the Chevy SS also.
The only thing I hate is the price tags on those cars.
In 2015 My boy was looking to buy a pickup truck and the one Chevy dealer we visited had and SS in stock, it was Black& black interior, it was a demo car and they had it reduced to 38K or so.
I think the car was up there in Corvette cost. Maybe it is the shipping that gets the price up to high.
It would be tough to drive one home I think.

 

Something about those car-trucks always appealed to me. I had a 77 Ranchero GT that I bought used during the 2nd 70s gas crisis'. Super cheap, like under 4,000 with 25K on it. It was long, low and fast. Gas mileage was less than 11 but it was a beaut.

 

Not going to happen, even the guy that wrote the article says it's not happening. I don't see that having a strong enough market in the U.S. to make that a smart move on any car company's part. If people need bed space they buy a pickup and there's such a strong pickup presence in this Country already.
