December traditions....
Saturday, December 6, 2008, was my parents' 35th Annual Christmas Open House. The event started out as a "thank you" to those that helped them move into their home. It has grown ever since, and many people look forward to it as a way to "kick off" the holiday season. It takes a lot of preparation (decorating, making treats, etc.), but it is well worth it, whether 80 or 30 people attend.
Do you have any long-standing December traditions that you look forward to every year?

I have always went to a local store with my mom and bought an advent calendar for as long a can remember. Although the candy inside is horrible i still enjoy doing it. I even have one with me at college right now

I remember those Advent calendars ... been a while since I got one for myself, but cool nonetheless. As a youngster, those days of December DRAGGED by so SLOWLY......lol

The days are still going slow it seems to me. I woke up this morning thinking that it was Saturday only to find out that it is still thursday.

for the past 3 years just about our entire family gathers in colorado now for christmas. we have grandparents in arizona, aunts and uncles in colorado, we are there alot, and it makes for a good time skiin with the whole family. so i guess its kinda a tradition.
i dont think we would have started it if it wasnt for my 5 year old brother. we probably wouldnt even celebrate it with gifts and gatherings if it wasnt for him.

Wouldn't it be nice if the WORK days went by quickly ... and the time off took "forever"
