Congratulations Ryan.
My '06 was my first car payment since 1985. I paid my '79 Diplomat off when I was 27. The loan was for 3 years, I paid the car off in 1.5 years. And the bank SCREWED me royal. My parents were upset because the bank screwed me and even went in to talk to bank manager. My former girlfriend Maureen even called the bank to complain to them about me being ripped off my them. None of this had any affect on getting even one cent of my money back.
I just got rid of the Diplomat about 6 years ago. But had been driving a resurrected '83 2.2 Dodge Charger from 1992-2000.
Sorry to see your wanting to part with the Monte so soon after getting it paid for.
Me too.

I am hoping to set up my house hold to never have a car payment again as well. I have never had a car payment that "strapped" me down, but it's an annoyance and I just hate paying "interest" on a loan.
Luckily, I bought my '04 Monte in '08 for cash and a little over a month ago, we got an irresistible deal on an '05 Impala for my wife, also paid in cash. So far, so good on no payments

all the above RJ, what happened with your loan and payoff? just curious because I always pay more monthly on my car, actually I don't think I need to make a payment for the next 4 months.. Is it a principal thing or what, just wondering! thanks
Some time in june of that year I had my girlfriend call the bank, ask what the payoff on the loan was? Remember I was 15 months ahead of plan. The bank gave her a number and she told me when I got home from work that day.
Two weeks later I send her in to pay the car off. TWO WEEKS after the bank gave her the dollar amount what it would take to pay the loan off 15 months in advance. The teller explaims to my girlfriend, "You have to pay the full amount." Full amount? Full amount of what? It was the full amount of the loan the bank wanted. WAIT!!! they said it would be $XXX.XX to pay the loan off two weeks ago. Now they want the full amount of the loan? Or equal amount of another 15 months of payments? They sure did!!!
This is what got my parents involved. Cause someone at the bank took this money. No other explaination. I think there was like a $800 difference in what the bank first said compared to the total pay out of the loan if it went another 15 months.
I still have payment book on the car.
