I think it might be the chrome colored plastic also. When that stuff goes bad, forget it. I wonder if maybe you can get your hands on a strip of aluminum or other metal. Cut and shape it to fit, and get it chromed. If you're dead set on having a shiny piece of chrome on the leading edge of the hood.

That is one nice monte. I like what he's done with it. And the building in the background looks just like a school in my area.

Hmmm I'm not really sure actually. Mine is covered up at the moment But if I had to guess, I'd say it's not real chrome.
