NEW YORK (CNNMoney)
Consumer Reports has named the Chevy Silverado 1500 its "top-rated truck."
The vehicle trumped Dodge's Ram 1500, which came in second-place, the magazine announced on Tuesday.
<!-- ADSPACE: auto/quigo/ctr.220x200 -->
The Silverado, made by General Motors (GM, Fortune 500), has a more ample cargo bed, several hundred pounds of greater payload capacity, and can also tow a heavier trailer -- up to 11,200 pounds, the magazine said.
Plus, the Silverado's easy-to-raise and lower tailgate, corner bump steps, and a lower step-in height make it more convenient for some consumers, it said
The magazine also found that Chevy's truck delivered the best-in-class fuel economy of 16 mpg overall -- one mpg more than the Ram.
While some of the Silverado's features, like its larger bed and more powerful towing capacity, make it more appealing than the Ram for businesses looking for a work-horse truck, testers said the Ram might be better for daily driving, calling Dodge's truck a nicer place to spend your time.
"It rides better thanks to its unique rear coil spring suspension," the magazine said of the Ram. It also said the interior was more comfortable than the Silverado's, including a "friendlier" control layout.
However, the race was close -- with a difference of just three points.
Jake Fisher, the director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports, said you can't go wrong with either one.
"Both are capable trucks that get decent gas mileage and are as quiet inside as a good luxury car," he said.

I'm not surprised at this...
I personally own a Silverado...(2004)
When ever we go camping... Guess which truck is the most popular truck in the Campgrounds? That's right...The Chevy Silverado!
I have 2 friends with the new eco boost fords...they both have smaller campers than mine theirs are pull behinds... mines a 5th wheel...
Guess who gets the better fuel mileage? My Silverado of course! they only get 10 to 12 miles per gallon..towing....
I get anywhere from 15 to 18 miles per gallon....
If conditions are right while towing I have gotten as much as 22 mpg!!!
low wind..no mountains/steep grades.. (like across ohio)
I'm a Believer!!!!!
Thanks for the Thread Space!

Space,
I have an 03 2500HD and love it, someday will replace with an new or newer version. I would agree you see many more on the road if you combine with GMC......always question GM's though behind having 2 truck lines. Could knock Ford out of their #1 spot I believe.
Have a great weekend!
Ron

Eh, the overall design isn't anything that amazed me first time I saw it. I guess it's another one that's going to have to grow on me. One thing I can say is lose the stupid black horizontal "bar" through the center of the grille and Bowtie. Another one of those instances where I think designers are just playing around on the computer to see what looks good and end up over doing it. It's too busy; just simplify it. More is not always better.
This might be the rare occasion where I side with the GMC design.
Moving to the SUV side of things, I'm even less happy with the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban/Tahoe design. What the hell with the headlights, front end? Again, designers are having WAY too much time to play on the computer. Lose the weird lines and simplify it. I can say I love the body line down the side below the windows and above the door handles. Looking down the side (like the Yukon image below) is very appealing.
Now, the 2015 GMC Yukon Design is VERY nice. I have to go with GMC on this one.

Thanks `Matt, for your post & super contributions + pictures + your thoughts > reviews...
I like all of them for what they are built for, but to me they are still super expensive > unless you have a need for that much room or hauling abilities. I was impress with the one that did 0-60 in 6.1 sec
