Charlotte Track Laps with the Torino and running with a friends Nova!
This one is a long story to tell but I'll do it as briefly and as interestingly as possible.
AS you all know, I love running my old Torino at NASCAR tracks whe nthe opportunites are available.
As last year, the opportunity was the Souvenir blow out, for a $25 donation to charity or $50 in goods. We used a combination to get 4 people laps on the track.
A friend of mine has been wanting to go since about the mid summer months and we finally got an opportunity for him to go. His car is the silver 1974 Nova in these shots. He has a 400 hp 350 Chevrolet engine in his car. We all went on the track together and got my brother to get out of the car and take pictures. In exchange, I let him drive my Torino around the track after we went out as a trio.
The deal with the Nova was that both he and and I would pass my dad, since my dad had my 90 year old grandfather in the car nad his doesn't handle as well as mine... his lieks to wander around a lot more. He and I agreed that I would lead lap 1, I would go high on lap 2 and let him pull along side, then let him pull ahead for lap 3 and then I would pass again after we exited the track and show him how to manuever to victory lane. Here are the results...
First Off, the Videos!!!
Here is the video from the Nova. On the back stretch on laps 1 and 2, I was running 100 while he ran about 110 or so. Moving on!! (although it doens't look like it.)
And then this is the video of my brother driving...
The Pictures!!!
A few of my favorite pictures...
My Torino
Dad's Fairlane...
Possibly the best picture out of the group...
Or this one...
And the driver of the Nova had his girlfriend videoing and seh took pictures with her cell phone.... she took these two photos of my Torino while we ran side by side at about 85 mph in the corners...
These pictures were taken inside the car by me while my brother drove..
And then we did about a 20 minute photoshoot in victory lane. We put the Nova in first and took some photos alone for his collections, which are in my Facebook album, then we took pictures of the Torino and Nova together, then the Torino and Fairlane together.
This shot has my brother, father, and grandfather.
And a shot of my car on pit road...
For a complete set of pictures, you can follow this link to my Facebook profile.... many more pictures of victory lane and a few more track pictures....

I think I fixed the Facebook link. the problem is the forums coding to hyperlink pages and shorten links and look for the title of things to list them as taht... I had to go into the advanced settings and undo all of that.
The link now appears on the bottom of that last post. You just have to manually copy and paste it....

AS far as speed goes... Teh pace car was going 75, but eveyroen was dropping back and zooming forward. We ran 80 in the corners and on the front stretch, since we were side by side. But on the one lap where you briefly see us side by sideon the straightaway.. we both floored it. I was running about 100 but he pulled ahead to run about 110 that lap. I overheard some other guys talking about hitting 120 and 130.
