Keane I would check out "SEARCHTEMPEST". They will give you a national search of Craigslist. I would look for a car from a rust free area of the country such as Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Washington state. Save a few thousand dollars more and I'm sure you can pick up something that will be fun and unusual but also inexpensive to restore and maintain.

How many of these do you think you would see at a car show?

1. 1980-1985 Chevrolet Citation X-11

2. 1982-1986 Chevrolet Cavalier Type 10

3. 1986-1995 Chevrolet Cavalier Z-24. Depending on the year either as a hatchback or a convertible.

Gregg you'd probably see none of those at a show, MAYBE the Z24. I did pick up my monte for $1000 so im hoping i can score twice. Im not after something as nice as my monte, i just wanna get something that will run and drive. Use it and then either sell it or scrap it.

Keane it is really too bad that we don't see those cars at a show. They were neat cars at a time when there were no performance cars. You have a tall order. I hope you are able to find what you seek.

My biggest issue will be convincing my mom to let me get another car lol. She goes nuts as it is with what we've got so i have to hide the car i buy or i'll need a place to keep it (ideas?) I did find this dealer in NJ that specializes in selling cars for $1000 or less, the tan cavalier and blue saturn catch my eye.

What was the reason for looking at another car?

I like that Saturn. The 4 banger and manual will make it a fun and cheap beater.

Reason is i want to learn to drive stick. Many people said they'll let me use their car and teach me. But no one has come through on their offer. So at this point im like screw it, i'll get a beater and teach myself. Drive it for a few months and then get rid of it. This way i can drive it when i want and not when its convient for someone else.

Gotcha. I really want my next car to be a manual. I've driven a few friends' cars and they are a blast.
