I have always been curious what the point of roof rails are. They look nice, but what exactly are they made for? I've been wondering this for a long time.

They are just there to mimic the look of the Nascar cars. Purely cosmetic.

I see. How much are they? I think they look nice on every car I've seen with em.

Au Contraire Mike. Just like stripes and decals, they add 10 horsepower each!

Way to go Ashley!

They only came on certain Pontiac Grand Prixs (40th Anniversary, Special Edition, Daytona Edition)

So you will have to find someone parting them out, they can be anywhere from $140-$300+ depending on the seller

Now that I think about it. Why would they be designed to mimic the nascar cars? They were originally designed, and installed, only on Pontiac Grand Prix GTP's. Pontiac didn't run in nascar when those roof rails were originally installed.

They are purely cosmetic. And I know Monte owners install them to mimic nascar Monte's. But what was Pontiac's reasoning for making them?

By the way, I have seen them on "normal" Grand Prix GTP's. Non-special editions.

You could add a special edition package to any GT or GTP. They didn't necessarily say they were a special edition from the outside (although the 2-toned seats on the inside gave it away)
