RE: Anti Virus Protection
I have Norton and like it. Some say it slows your computer but since I had a dinosaur of a computer before, the new one even with Norton is waaay faster than the dinosaur.
We just had the free avg discussion today on another forum. Here's a link that is to the still free version http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html?part=dl-AVGAntiVir&subj=dl&tag=buttonOne warning though from a guy that goofed. If you have a bootlegged version of your operating system, doNOT delete the the 7.5 install file from your computerbeforeinstalling the 8.0 version. It verifies it's a legit OS and if you do not have the validation key it will abort.

I use Avast antivirus. It is a free program, you have to register it once for it to be good for 14 months.I use it on my desktop and my laptop, it updates automatically every 24 hours, and I haven't had any viruses since I started using it about 5 years ago.
Another good free antivirus tool for a quick check for viruses is Stinger, made by Mcafee, which they update every couple of weeks, which does a quick scan of your system for the current top viruses, trojans, and other nasty stuff. It's not a full time antivirus like Avast or AVG.

RE: Anti Virus Protection
I still use avg.. I have avg Free 8 and had no problems with it at all.. just go to free.grisoft.com and you can get the latest version.. When i work on people's computers, they usually ask why its going so slow, and usually it's only because they are running norton or mcafee, which bundles all of their software so that you can't just use one thing out of it.. So it ends up slowing the system WAY down.
Personally, I'd go with the free AVG and not worry.. It has done well by me so far.
