im kinda surprised about the celings being low, but i know how ya feel, im 6'3 so i got the same kinda issues. i remember one friends house had a "finished" basement... and the celings were 6' at best... with celing fans! lol.

Yeah ryan, when I went upstairs, the first room I went in had a ceiling fan and the blade were barely an inch above my head, lol. I would like to have a garage, but if I can find a nice house with a yard, I can always build one later on. I am still looking at houses with garages tho.

I agree on getting a professional inspector in and look things over BEFORE any papers are signed. Electrical goblins are a real issue, as is the furnace. Water check, plumbing, etc, etc, etc.
Take your time, it's a buyers market. Get your mortgage in place now, and you'll be ready.

& loan infor etc.

Matt, good luck looking for a house! Don't settle for something you don't like!
When it comes to getting a loan, do not get anything that is a 3 in 1 arm, or 5 in 1 arm loan. These loans make it so that you only pay intrest for the the first "3" or "5" years. The intrest is VARIABLE, so your house payment could sky rocket at any given time, plus after 3 or 5 years, you have to refinance into a fixed rate and start paying on the principle. These loans are a large reason so many people ended up not being able to afford their houses, and lost everything. When you get a loan, go for a fixed rate loan. Like a 15, or 30 year fixed rate.

Great advice Micheal.....From the early '90 on thru the housing market tanking many people in the realesate / loan ,mortgage community were taking huge advantage off people they should have known wouldnt be able to keep paying once principal was added but the capps and restrictions were off. they made loads and we now as a country have felt it and many people have pesonally been ruined because of it...nice thought and goal for everyone to own homes but why not build the standard of living rather than artifically make it available next time,,,knuckle heads Go with a fixed Matt...you'll be much happier and also retain your sanaity, Best of luck in the hunt jarhead

Exactly, all the loan officers got greedy, and did not care if someone could actually afford the payment or not, the "made if work" so that you could practically make minimum wage, and buy a $500,000 dollar house. All the loan agencies wanted was their commision check.
I can't stress it enough FIXED RATE! Plus intrest rates are really low right now. I wish I could afford to buy right now, but when houses are $500-750,000 for an average home, its kinda hard.
