Every year, Consumer Reports conducts an owner satisfaction survey to see what its readers think of the vehicle they purchased recently. The survey covers vehicles between one and three years old and takes into account everything from fuel economy to curb appeal and cargo space. At the end, consumers weigh in on whether they would buy the car again if given a second chance.
It turns out the average vehicle has about 70% of Consumer Reports subscribers saying they would buy it again. Top dog (surprise!) was the Tesla Model S at 98% satisfaction. Ho hum. Porsche drivers and Corvette owners ranked their smoking cars just behind the Model S. OK, we get it: Expensive performance cars make their owners happy. We won’t be standing on pins and needles waiting for word on how much Bentley owners love their cars.
On the other end of the spectrum were the cars that fewer than 50% of owners would buy again. Call them the least satisfying automobiles on the U.S. market. Only four cars fell below the 50% mark, while another five couldn’t crack 55%. Not surprisingly, most are tiny-budget vehicles that represent the lowest end of the price spectrum. (What? Your $13,000 car isn’t a road warrior for the ages?)
Then again, there are a few stinkers that cost upwards of $30K to dissatisfy drivers. Considering 350,000 vehicles went under the microscope for the survey, our guess is there’s something to a horrible score for cars even over $20K. Here are the nine vehicles with the lowest level of satisfaction in the Consumer Reports survey, ranked from the least offensive to the most offensive impressions left on their owners.
Source: Hyundai

9. Hyundai Tucson (tie)

The Hyundai Tucson gets decent reviews from auto journalists kind enough to get behind its wheel. For Consumer Reports readers, nearly half said they wouldn’t go back to the Hyundai dealer and get themselves a Tucson if time travel were possible. With a starting MSRP of $21,650 and 29 miles per gallon on the highway, there is a lot going for this crossover. You get what you pay for, seemed to say the survey respondents. In fact, there was only one small SUV that scored worse among vehicle owners. With just 53% saying they’d choose a Tucson again, it tied for eighth and ninth place among the least loved cars.
Source: General Motors

8. Buick LaCrosse (tie)

If there were a satisfaction survey for the Buick website, it probably would not break 5%. Good luck finding out anything about the LaCrosse, the midsize sedan with a four-cylinder variant that landed the worst Consumer Reports survey rating for large cars (53%). Maybe Buick is embarrassed the 2.4-liter engine exists and is creating a virtual puzzle so consumers can’t find it. For $33,635, people clearly wanted more. The V6 model didn’t fare much better, either. It nabbed a 62% satisfaction rating on the large car list, making it the second-worst behind its wimpy, four-cylinder sibling.
Source: Nissan

7. Nissan Pathfinder

Pathfinder also caught a black eye in the satisfaction survey. The SUV has picked up honors from Edmunds and Kelley Blue Book in recent years, but only 52% of Consumer Reports readers said they would buy another Pathfinder ($29,510) if given the chance. It had the worst score of any midsize SUV on the list. In fact, Nissan took more than a few punches in this survey. Of the nine least-loved vehicles making an appearance on this list, three were Nissans.
Source: Ford Motor Company

6. Ford Fiesta (tie)

The Ford Fiesta begins the run of poorly received subcompact vehicles. Only 51% of Consumer Reports respondents said they would buy another Fiesta if given the chance. You might be thinking, “You can only be a teenager once,” but the Fiesta in its base trim ($13,965) does offer 43 highway miles per gallon. In other words, it’s a good first car or car where fuel economy is your main priority. Fiesta SE ($15,195) trims have the optional three-cylinder, 1.0-liter Ecoboost engine that won the International Engine of the Year Award three times. Consumer Reports readers didn’t care. They wanted more power, style, and performance for their $14K.
Source: Volkswagen

5. Volkswagen Jetta (tie)

Tying the Fiesta for fifth and sixth among the least-loved cars is the Volkswagen Jetta four-cylinder (non-turbo) model. Just 51% of survey participants said they would opt for the 2.0-liter model ($17,325) again. Fair enough, but let’s take a look at the 1.8-liter turbocharged Jetta SE ($18,995). For just $1,670 more, you get an upgrade of 55 horsepower and a significantly better driving experience. Another 10% of survey respondents (61%) rated the turbo Jetta SE as a car they would buy again. Frankly, those who bought the Jetta S to save $1,670 got what they paid for.

4. Nissan Sentra

If Americans are not feeling much love for the Nissan Sentra, they’re keeping it to themselves. Sentra has shot up the sales charts in 2014, gaining 42% in the first 11 months of 2014 over the prior year. Nissan delivered its most recent Sentra with more interior space and better fuel economy than its rivals while keeping its MSRP lower ($15,990) than any of them. That made Sentra the not-so-secret weapon for the automaker in the U.S. However, that hasn’t won over the Consumer Reports crowd. Just 47% of those polled said they would choose Sentra again. It was the worst-scoring compact car.
Source: Kia

3. Kia Rio

What new car can you get for $13,900? The Kia Rio is one of the precious few, so you have to wonder what someone might expect in this vehicle class. Granted, the fuel economy of the Rio (37 highway miles per gallon) is not exceptional for the subcompact class, but it doesn’t seem like the kind of car you want to drive often anyway. Just 46% of Consumer Reports voters said they’d go for a mini Rio in their next (or current) lives. Perhaps the poor Rio will continue being relegated to rental fleets as the budget option.
Source: Fiat Chrysler

2. Jeep Compass

Jeep’s affordable ($18,995) Compass gets decent reviews from auto publications and went on a bit of a hot streak (up 14% in sales) in 2014. When looking at small SUVs, Compass has impressive fuel economy at 30 miles per gallon. Only 43% of Consumer Reports owners liked the Compass as their personal car, making it the worst-performing SUV by a full 10%. It is also the only SUV where at least one in two respondents said they would not buy the car again. Few cars were so hated by their owners in this survey.
Source: Nissan

1. Nissan Versa

Then there is the poor Versa, the last car standing and the third Nissan-badged vehicle that was bludgeoned by Consumer Reports readers in the satisfaction survey. Just 42% of those polled said they’d have another run at the Versa if given the chance to turn back time. We’d feel like we were shirking our responsibility if we didn’t mention the Versa is the cheapest automobile ($11,900) available on the U.S. market. We’d also bet that Leonardo DiCaprio routinely racks up bar tabs that cost more than a Versa.

The 10 Best Cars of 2015

Every automotive publication has its own definition of “best” cars on the market. At Car and Driver Magazine, editors zero in on the vehicles that do what the segment demands better than other available cars while performing with grace and delivering exceptional value. They take a strictly “car” approach as well, so there are no crossovers or other interlopers, and the price cap is $80,000. Only coupes, sedans, and hatchbacks make the grade. The latest list included returning champs and a few intriguing new entries. Here are the 10 best cars of 2015 according to Car and Driver, listed in alphabetical order.
Stan Honda/AFP/Getty Images

1. BMW M235i

Car and Driver is all about the M235i, the BMW that straddles the line between the M performance line and the automaker’s more sedate offerings in what editors called a “perfect” way. In fact, this 320-horsepower thriller “proves BMW still has the code to driving excellence” in the publication’s estimation. That endorsement is worthy of at least a few billboards in a neighborhood near you, should the automaker choose to quote it.

2. Cadillac CTS

With all three German luxury automakers cranking up the quality meter, Cadillac needed a home run to place its CTS in the top 10 list. Car and Driver says “mission accomplished” for GM’s luxury brand as it nudged aside the Audi A6 and Mercedes E-Class to take its spot among the best of 2015. According to the publication, Cadillac’s work on the CTS handling is what earned it the prize. Endless tests on the Nürburgring proved the aluminium front components, battery placement, and obsessive gram-counting were delivering the knockout formula.

3. Chevy Corvette Stingray

Coming back for its second-straight go on the 10 best list is the Chevy Corvette Stingray, the seventh generation Car and Driver says is the “best-ever” without any reservations. In fact, the publication rhapsodizes about the 6.2-liter V8 on such levels it is enough to make readers blush. The bottom line is Car and Driver believes (as so many others do) that the platform and engine are so otherworldly in the Stingray that the upgrades to the body and cockpit make it a modern legend.
Source: Ford Motor Company

4. Ford Mustang GT

Car and Driver treats the tale behind the new Mustang’s independent rear suspension as an essential modern creation story, and maybe the editors should: it elevated the sixth-generation icon to previously unrealized heights. Shoving aside Camaro and Challenger to burn onto the top 10 list, the Mustang GT claimed the muscle crown for 2015. Saying the Mustang ” interior boasts meticulousness heretofore absent from mainstream American cars,” Car and Driver considered the entire package (including the power upgrade) a smashing success. Bonus points were given for the introduction of line lock, a first for production vehicles.

5. Honda Accord

Can a rock star car be hiding in the driveways of 400,000 new buyers every year? Car and Driver says the Honda Accord is one such vehicle, a car that is “better than it has to be” for two reasons. The first is the engineering achievement that gives the seamless impression of harmony when driving Honda’s midsize sedan; the second is the car’s ability to handle engaged runs and start-stop affairs to the supermarket with equal aplomb. For anyone with doubts about buying an Accord, Car and Driver offers a strong case in its favor.
Victor Decolongon/Getty Images

6. Mazda3

Anyone who has read a review of the Mazda3 in recent years will not be surprised to find this all star in the top 10 of 2015. Car and Driver loves the interior layout (especially the info display at the top of the dash), but the editors join so many others in raving about the driving experience of the 3. It is a perennial contender on this list, and expect the 3 to return for next year’s as well.
Victor Decolongon/Getty Images

7. Mazda6

In the midsize sedan segment, the Honda Accord actually fell in behind the Mazda6 in Car and Driver rankings, but both made their way onto the top 10 for 2015. As with the smaller 3, the Mazda6 scored big on the driver’s experience and its performance car guts that made the site’s editors gush. In fact, Car and Driver said it was probably the one vehicle you need “unless you have 12 kids.”

8. Porsche Boxster/Cayman

Only the Corvette ranked higher than the Cayman and Boxster in the Car and Driver sports car segment, and its editors believe the virtues of these Porsches can be had in even their most basic forms. It comes down to the exquisite nature of the mid-engine layout and the ability of both speedsters to serve as commuter cars while delivering the top-level performance when you need it.
Source: Tesla Motors

9. Tesla Model S 60kWh

Like most auto publications, Car and Driver considers the Tesla Model S in a class of its own due to its gigantic advantage in range when compared to other electric vehicles. Another huge asset is the placement of the battery pack underneath the car that makes it more like a mid-engine Porsche with respect to weight distribution than lesser luxury models. Limited to the 60 kWh Model S because of the price constraints of its 10 best list, Car and Driver didn’t feel like there was much compromising the lower-priced model.
Harold Cunningham/Getty Images

10. Volkswagen Golf/Golf GTI

Now in its ninth straight year that a Golf has been on the 10 best list, Volkswagen nailed it with the both the base and GTI models for 2015. Calling it “the Swiss Army knife of transport,” Car and Driver raved about the light steering, the smoothness of the torque distribution, and the Golf’s ability to fit into every budget and need a driver might have. To show why it is so enthusiastic, the editors then break down the winning qualities of each trim. Every Golf is a winner on this list.

These 10 Vehicles Have Been Deemed the Deadliest on the Road

Buy & Give one to someone you don't like LOL (That's not funny `Space) LOL

Eric Schaal |, 2014 It takes years for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) to compile and organize the statistics for crash deaths and the vehicles in which drivers met their end. However, the latest report tracked model-year automobiles up to 2008, allowing the IIHS to deliver stats that included traffic accident data through 2009 .
The auto safety agency ran the numbers on all vehicles with 100,000 registrations or more between 2006 and 2009, counting only the deaths of the driver (not passengers) in their statistics. In the end, the IIHS calculated a ratio of “driver death per million registered vehicles.” Needless to say, drivers shopping for used vehicles more than four years old would be advised to check the list, which we’ve laid out for your perusal below.
Here are the 10 vehicles that involved the highest number of deaths per million registrations.
Source: Stan Honda/AFP/Getty Images

10. Chevy Colorado Extended Cab
While smaller cars were behind most recorded driver fatalities, the Chevy Colorado Extended Cab 2WD pickup from GM was one of the larger vehicles to make the top 10. In total, 2005-2008 model Colorados recorded 93 deaths per million registrations. The majority of deaths (54 per million) were the result of crashes involving no other vehicle.

Source: Nissan

9. Nissan Versa Sedan
The four-door Nissan Versa tied for eighth and ninth place on the list with 96 driver deaths per million registrations for 2005-2008 models. As with the Colorado, the majority of fatalities resulted from single-vehicle crashes (60 per million), which suggests the car is difficult to control when the driver encounters dangerous situations.

Source: Hyundai

8. Hyundai Tiburon
The Hyundai Tiburon from model years 2005 through 2008 features recorded 96 fatalities per million registrations, matching the total of the Nissan Versa during the testing period. Some 63 deaths per million registrations involved single-vehicle crashes for drivers of the two-door Tiburon, which in Spanish means “shark.”

Source: GM

7. Chevrolet Malibu
The 2005 through 2008 Chevy Malibu and Malibu Classic didn’t exactly set benchmarks for style and performance, and saw themselves relegated to vehicle fleets. The IIHS says this may have factored into the high death rate among drivers, which totaled an alarming 99 per million registrations of the four-door sedan. Out of that group, 63 per million registrations involved multiple-vehicle accidents, a reversal of the number posted by the Versa and Tiburon.

6. Kia Spectra Wagon
The Kia Spectra wagon from model years 2005 through 2008 put Hyundai’s corporate cousin on this list. For every million registrations, 102 drivers perished behind the wheel of a Spectra wagon — the majority, at 63 per million registrations, were involved in multiple-car crashes.

Source: Nissan

5. Nissan Titan Extended Cab

The Nissan Titan 2WD extended cab pickup from models years 2005 through 2008 was something of a menace on U.S. roads for the four years in question. For every million registrations of the vehicle, 111 drivers met their deaths behind the wheel of a Titan, with a wide majority (77 per million registrations) occurring in single-vehicle crashes.

4. Chevy Cobalt

With more recent notoriety for its role in GM’s huge ignition switch scandal, the Cobalt proved to be one of the deadliest vehicles on the road. The four-door Cobalt sedan from model years 2005 through 2008 had a death rate of 117 drivers per million registrations. Like the Malibu, the Cobalt made its way to plenty of rental fleets, a factor the IIHS says contributes to the exceptionally high number of fatalities.
Source: Dibyangshu Sarkar/Getty Images

3. Chevy Aveo
The fourth Chevrolet in the top 10 deadliest vehicles is the four-door Chevy Aveo. Studying the crashes of model years 2005 through 2008, the IIHS determined there were 119 driver deaths per million car registrations, split evenly between multiple-vehicle crashes and single-vehicle accidents. The study showed that smaller cars were the most dangerous for drivers, with the exception of poorly designed pickups. SUVs composed the safest class of all.

Source: Nissan

2. Nissan Titan Crew Cab

No matter what type of cab drivers of the Nissan Titan selected, they risked facing one of the highest fatality rates among vehicles bearing the badges from the model years 2005 through 2008. The Nissan Titan crew cab 2WD pickup was involved in 126 driver deaths per million vehicles during the four years of analysis, with 94 per million registrations occurring in single-vehicle crashes.

Source: Nissan

1. Nissan 350Z

Topping the list of deadliest cars on the road is another Nissan: the two-door 350Z from model years 2005 to 2008. IIHS recorded 143 deaths per million registrations for Nissan 350Z drivers during the study period, with 90 deaths per million registrations occurring in single-vehicle crashes.
Chevrolet and Nissan were producing the vehicles involving the highest ratio of driver deaths for a span of four years, with Hyundai and Kia making up the balance. In the course of used car shopping, check the IIHS stats to ensure the safety record of any vehicle.

Another interesting post. Some of the cars in the lists are actually quite surprising, but when you factor in the "fleet"effect it does make sense as most people don't drive company cars in the most safest of manner's also they generally are used for long haul trips which would account for some of the high numbers.

The sports cars, well they will always factor high as generally people are driving the cars well beyond what they are capable of controlling (insert days of thunder quote here lol)

I would have added a few to the list, probably not because of safety but because of just plain ugly factor ie. the nissan Cube, I can't believe people buy that vehicle but that is my opinion. Also it is hard not to make a "worst of" list without including the old ford Pinto sorry but whenever I think of bad motor vehicle designs and flaws that car comes to mind, I still remember the old hit the bumper and the car blows up specials on tv when I was a kid, even though it took quite a lot of "staging" for it to actually happen but when it is presented by the media it sure makes people think it could really happen.
