I was in 6th grade at the time. We went to gym class and teh gym teacher mentioned it. At that time, only 1 plane had struck one tower so we were thinking accident. The class discussed it for a minute or so. We did our regular gym class and didn't think much more on it. At teh end fo the 45 minute session (I think it was 45 minutes), our teacher showed up at gym class, and I will never forget the expression on her face when she came and picked us up, the tears in her eyes and on her cheeks. She informed as that a plane had struck hte second tower and the pentagon and that it was believed to be a terrorist attack. She took us to the library along with the rest of the 6th grade classes to watch on TV. It was an early release that day, as were all second Tuesdays of each month (staff development meetings in this county). My parents checked me out earlier yet. They took me home. My dad had dedicated runs to Charlotte at the time. When hte load finally was ready around noon, we picked it up and the whole family rode to Charlotte listening to teh events of the day (the Presidnet moving around and such) over hte radio. When we reached Charlotte, we had to go to a Lowe's warehouse in North Wilkesboro, NC to to get another load and go home.[/align]

I like so many here was asleep i had just came in from O.T.R. i had ran all night long to make it home just in enough time to see my kid and wife go to work She was 4years old and in Day care. her whole life was what color daddy liked best on his pictures.
Mom was in the service and workign at Maxwell A.F.B. in Montegomery Al.
The tornado sirens went off, the phone rang, and the jest flew acrossed the skies. i recived a phone call fromt he wife just intime to see the second plane hit the towers. and ehr telling me she ididnt knwo when or if she would be home for awhile and that i needed to get my daughter. I got dressed and went to get my kid. i could not even get out of the houseing we lived in it was off base but there were base police everywhere aroudn the area. We were told go home and stay there till further notice. And if we had kids they would be taken to the shelter and taken care of till we could get on base to get them or till they reased the service members to get them.

Yeah talk about a day of hell. they cut all communications off on base. no "un important calls" in or out.
So i didnt hear from the wife till late that night.

I had just came off the road for a local job i dont think i slept for a week other then teh 3 hours i had that mornning.
I picked up the phone as it rang. it was my uncel and my old employer. "Mickey we need you now!! you are needed to help move debrie from the area get your truck and pick up this step deck and dead head this way. save recipets and we will get your fule paid off when you get here.
I was so intent on gettign there and to let my family know i left out with a full tank of fule and didnt stop other then fule. and a letter from the base stating i didnt have alog book.

I had one of those times in my life that i can actually say i was so mad, hurt, scared, sad that i was numb. all i wanted to do was find who did it and make sure that my wife and kid were safe.

I remeber this day like it was played out this morrning. It is truley a shame but R.J. is right on some of his points. we as the U.S. were so cocky that we told them how to do it. this was nto the first attack on those buildings but it was the most destructive. and after that last truck boming they went in to depth on how and what could have been done to bring those towers downa nd the weakness of them.
It is the sad truth. But it dose not mean i wont support our troops. might not like the idea of War but i respecet each and every one of the folks doing a job for us to have the freedom to wake up in the morrning and know that we are still a free country.
