The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has been given EPA fuel economy estimates of 17 mpg city and 29 mpg on the highway, numbers that make it one of the most efficient sports cars on the market. But like similar sports cars, owners will likely never see anything close to these figures, as we don’t see Stingray owners exclusively cruising the highway in “Eco” mode. The 29 mpg highway figure takes the average of the “Tour” and “Eco” modes, at 28 mpg and 30 mpg on the highway, respectively. Still, the capability to get that kind of fuel economy, on a car as competent as the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette promises to be is impressive.
Owners however, will likely be more concerned with the performance aspect of the 6.2-liter, 455-hp V-8 engine, mated to the standard seven-speed manual transmission. The Corvette features driver-selectable modes that adjust the suspension and steering feel, and there are settings to match almost any road condition. The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has also notably improved fuel economy by 11 percent over the previous ‘Vette, and also added more power, 6 percent to be precise. When compared with a Porsche 911 Carrera S, rated at 400 hp and 27 mpg on the highway, the Corvette’s power to efficiency ratio is exceptional.
