In the realm of people movers, the Chevrolet Traverse is one of those vehicles whose design makes sense the instant you enter the cabin. Even if you weren’t in love with its styling, the Traverse has been winning over buyers—close to 400,000 have been sold since it made its debut in 2009. And this year the Traverse gets its first makeover, which will likely ensure the continuation of its sales success.

The first thing you’ll notice is the Traverse’s updated exterior. The front end has been massaged slightly to give it a more familial connection to the current Chevy lineup. This involved new headlamps, a new horizontal grille and, what Chevroletembellishes as a “power dome” hood. The taillights adopt a more conventional shape trimmed in black, bisected by a new tailgate design that raises the Traverse’s sporting appearance a degree or two.

If you were a fan of the old model, rest assured the fundamental hardware remains unchanged. Its decently spunky 3.6-liter direct-injected V-6 offers 281 bhp and 266 lb.-ft. of torque (288 bhp and 270 lb.-ft. with the LTZ trim dual exhaust) while returning acceptable fuel economy (fwd, 17 city/24 highway; awd, 16 city/23 highway) given the large size of the vehicle, which does have its benefits.
Take for example the 24.4 cubic foot cargo hold behind the third row of seats; that’s 10 cubic feet more than you’ll find in theChevy Malibu, whose trunk isn’t exactly inadequate. And if you don’t have the immediate need to fill all 5 or 6 rear passenger seats, there’s a total 116.3 cu.-ft. of hauling capacity available.

If we had to fault the previous Traverse, it would be for its relatively cheap interior. Chevy sought to remedy this by adding soft-touch surfaces to many of the contact areas including the upper front doors, instrument panels and even the dash. Although we weren’t fans of the wood trim and awkward combination of blue contrast stitching in our particular test vehicle, this new interior did help set off the beautiful new 6.5-in. color touchscreen interface of the Chevy MyLink infotainment system. Opt for the MyLink option, and smartphone integration via Bluetooth enables access to Pandora and Stitcher radio streaming, as well as hands-free calling.

Driving the Traverse on a tight winding road reminds you that this is a vehicle that weighs nearly two tons, and mass is a difficult to hide. On the flip side though, driving the Traverse in the city reminds you of what a comfortable ride it provides for the everyday commute, and this has even been improved upon for 2013. Up front, new rebound springs housed within the front struts are designed to help mitigate body roll, while new low-speed shock valving provides an even smoother ride than was found in last year’s model. The 2013 Chevrolet Traverse clearly is a comfortable city cruiser.
If you’re looking to get your hands on one of the new improved Traverse models, production begins at the end of this year. Prices start at $30,340, plus $995 for destination.

2014 Chevrolet Cruze Coupe SS - First Look

The solid and sensible Cruze gets a turbo-powered kick in the tailpipes.

There is a lot to recommend about the current Chevrolet Cruze. It’s handsome, spacious inside, and offers up to 42-mpg on the highway when you opt for the Eco model. About the only thing lacking is some pulse-quickening excitement. That could change as Chevrolet prepares to give the strong-selling Cruze a mid-cycle makeover. While there is no official confirmation, these artist illustrations of a long-rumored Coupe SS variant provide a tantalizing hint as to what might be in store.
The Coupe SS
From these renderings, it appears the Cruze Coupe could adopt much of the broad-shouldered design of the upcoming full-size Chevrolet Caprice sedan. The front fascia is blockier and blunter, and a tidier chrome grille with three center strakes and the Chevy bowtie emblem in the center replace the split grille of the current model. At the back there are dual exhaust tips peeking out from a (modest) rear diffuser. A rear spoiler and more rectangular-shaped taillights give the rear of the Cruze some extra muscle. It’s subtle – and not going to worry the likes of Ferrari – but we like it.

What we like even more is the thought of something feistier under the hood. These Cruze Coupe illustrations show the car in Super Sport (SS) format, which we’re hoping means GM’s potent turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 (found in everything from the Buick Regal to the Cadillac ATS) might work its way into the Cruze. If it does, expect engine output to hover somewhere in the region of 250 bhp. General Motors has good recent track record when it comes to offering a nice choice of transmissions. We’d expect a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic with some form of paddle-shifters to be available.
A sportier suspension setup, sharper steering, and beefier brakes would round out the mechanical changes. The cabin of the Cruze SS would likely include leather seating, unique badges and stitching, and the ubiquitous metal-finished gas, clutch and brake pedals. If it’s headed for production, the Cruze Coupe SS should make its first official appearance early next year during the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

Looks alright. And a 281 bhp V6 makes for a fun ride to and from work or driving the kids to practice.

I wouldn't buy a Traverse as a substitute for a Camaro. But if you need the interior room, and want to have a little fun while you're at it, It's a decent ride.

Hello `Lou, I also think it's a decent ride, but I don't think it's a decent price ( Prices start at $30,340, plus $995 for destination.) , but everything in the price range seems 2 expensive to me

There's home's that are selling in my State for that price..that are decent/liviable.WoW...Maybe need some work, and maybe not the best area...I know, you can't drive a house unless you are like Rick & get a motorhome ~> LOL

I like the back of the 2013 Traverse way better but not really the front. Very nice looking interior. The 2014 Cruze looks pretty cool. I'm not sure how I like that new grille that Chevrolet is starting to put on some of their cars. Would maybe look better without the chrome horizontal bars.
