Overview Information

General Motors introduced its Chevrolet Volt concept to rave reviews.

I hope this pic shows up for you, and not a red X. If you can see it, does it look vaguely familiar?

I see your point Taz....not to mention it takes fossil fuels to make electricity too.....

IDK, personally, I don't think the Volt it that bad looking. I mean no its not great looking, but not horrible either. I would drive a Volt over a Prius or Insight ANY DAY...I think the Chevy is much better looking than both. But I agree the concept was actually kinda cool, and better looking.

As for the price, 40K is insane, no way in hell i'd pay that kind of money for one.

I read in a Motor Trend a few months back that they were hoping to sell it for 30K or under....and it said they would not be making very much money on the Volt at that price, due to the high cost of the lithium ion batteries, however, it would get the Volt out there, and give Toyota and Honda some American compition...which would hopefully help strengthen the company in the future when lithium ion batteries came down in price...

I really don't know what true in all that, but thats just what I read in a Motor Trend.

I agree they look similar in MANY ways...but I think the front end of the Chevy has much more appeal than the Prius or Insight.

I'm sorry, but the Volt is one of the reasons I lost my job as a tool & die moldmaker. MUCH of the tooling (plastic injection molds) was outsourced to China for construction. The Volt and the new Malibu. I've been a GM man, and still am, but as far as I'm concerned, they can go _ _ _ _ (you fill in the blank) themselves on this one. An american car tooled by the Chinese. No thanks! I am struggling with the new Camaro being Canadian, but then I drive a Canadian Monte Carlo. Canada is a LOT different. The Chinese tax OUR cars 40% to import them.

I started a post on the Holden Monte Carlo as a possibility. I have mixed feelings on that also, but I do NOT believe the Aussie's are taxing our cars 40% like the Chinese are.

Free trade????? Where?

You can keep the damn thing. Sorry if I offended anyone.

No offense taken... I think you're right.

I think the BEST hybrid car is by FAR the Fusion. It's definitely the most attractive.

Simply awesome. Again, I know I sound like a Ford fanboy a lot, but I'm just putting out my honest opinion... They're so far ahead of GM and Chrysler it isn't even fair.

I hear ya Wayne.

I know this may sound a little biased coming from me, since I am Canadian. But it's the honest truth.

There used to be an advantage for the big 3 to produce their cars in Canada, but not anymore. Back when the Canadian dollar was worth 60 to 75 cents U.S., it made economic sense to produce up here.

But for a couple years now, the Canadian dollar has been close to par with the U.S. For a short while it was worth more than the U.S. dollar. So for the past couple years (and counting) it no longer makes economic sense for them to produce in Canada anymore.

The auto workers wages up here are similar to U.S. workers. And our taxes are much higher. The cost of doing business up here is higher than the U.S. now. That's why GM and Ford have closed almost all of their Canadian plants. The plant that makes the Camaro is one of the few GM plants left in Canada. Chrysler? Well Chrysler didn't have very many plants here to begin with. We have one of the extremely few Canadian Chrysler plants here in Windsor.

Basically, Canada is feeling the effects of the auto industry just as much (if not more) than the U.S. The minor differences in the U.S. and Canadian economy is no match for coutries like China.

Manufacturers know that producing in China is A WHOLE LOT cheaper than anywhere in the U.S. or Canada.

Every car that I've owned (except for the Monte) came off of an assembly line in the U.S. The Monte was Canadian like Wayne said.

I prefer to buy a car that was built in the U.S. or Canada. Keep the jobs over here instead of overseas. But the auto companies are making it harder.

Hi `Ted, thanks 4 saving me a search.. You find some great infor
& share with the member's...Just wanted U 2 know that it's
appreciated 4-Sure.

Ford must be doing something right..., no bail out money from
the Gov't...., building a Electric Fusion for $12K less then GM.
I still prefer GM Products, but I do like what Ford is doing.

I sure hope that GM can learn from it's mistake and again
become the #`1 Auto Maker in the World.
Wish U & Reader's a `Happy
Peace/Out

I disagree....But I've said it before, I am a GM person ALL the way! We all have our opinions, but no one can tell me that GM doesnt make a good car, my family and I have plenty of GM cars that are GREAT long lived cars. That said, my dad also has a 2002 Mustang GT, and it has also been a GREAT car. But the Mustang has many cheaper materials used...
