Default 1997 Sunfire Power Lock Switch

Hello,

I have been having a hell of a time trying to find a lock switch for my other car. It is a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire. Dealer said GM disconinued the part. I tried www.gmpartsdirect.comto no avail. They gave me the same answer when I placed my order.. The part was still in their DB.

I also tried searching aftermarket using google..

I will check the bone yard...

Does anyone know of any other alternatives. I suppose I cound figure out how to mount a different switch and then cut the connector off the wire loom in my door. Does anyone know if a newer switch will be a perfect fit but just look different? I am tempted to see if my monte switch is the same under the covers. If so, I will just replace both sides so they match.

I know this is a Monte Forum, but you guy know your GMs

Thanks,
Jeff P

What about the Sunfire's sibling, the Cavalier? Have you tried to see if it's the same, or at least similar? I think your best bet may be the junk yard like you said.

also might see if you can take the switch out of the car and see if it can be repierd or like Taz says the Cavalier. Lord knows there are a ton of them on the road. Bu tif ya find them i would defently snach a few of them if ya can.

Also sometimes the switch from one side will work on the other but the mountings are diffrent,

I took the switch out. I opened it up and there is not much left to the contacts... Corroded away to a bile of green oxidation powder... [&:]

Since you opened it up, does it look like you could get a new switch from Radio Shack or someplace, then put the factory button cap on top of the new switch? Or is the button cap all one piece with the old switch? If you're able to put the button cap on a new switch, you could save yourself alot of money and time.

Just a thought.

nope.. not lucky enough hehehe.. it is propriary... Of course it is.. But you know what... I will hit the bone yard..

Or maybe I willcut platic to fill the hole and then drill it for twolit push buttons.. (Lock and Unlock) That might be pretty slick... I could do the same on both sides....

just a though.. Boneyard would be simple.. Making it different just because might be fun..

you might also look at puting them in the center concel. if ya wan tto make some thing diffrent. then you can glass over the hole in the door pannels and move the window switches there also. lol this is somethign i havent seen in a sun fire or a cav ., or the sunbirds.
I also did how ever see that a guy put the switches in his over ehad concel
