JUSTIN LLOYD-MILLER 2014
Despite all the changes that occur in the auto industry on an annual basis, there is one list that won’t see a whole lot of movement: the fastest production cars in existence. The need for speed has come a long way in the last couple of decades, but while the race to 300 miles per hour is underway, the engineering required to do so is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain.
Here are the ten fastest production cars for 2013-2014, excluding vehicles that are tied for a certain position. According to TheSupercars.org, where the list originated, the list leaves out cars not street legal, and only accounts for production vehicles (concepts or modified cars are left out). Further, each car is measured by its confirmed top speed; theoretical top speeds that have not been proven are not included.
11. Lamborghini Aventador
The Lamborghini Aventador will clear 60 miles per hour in just 2.9 seconds and make its way on to a 220 miler per hour top speed, thanks to its 700 or so horsepower V12. It shares tenth place on the list with the Ascari A10 and the Aston Martin One-77, both of which will hit the 220 mark before coming back down.
10. Noble M600
Noble is a small company in England with a big horse in the super car race. The M600 can muster 225 miles per hour (after hitting 60 in 3.4 seconds), thanks to a twin-turbo 4.4 liter V8 that produces 650 horsepower. More impressive still is that the engine unit, before Noble gets its hands on it, originates from Yamaha, and was originally bred for the Volvo XC90 SUV. Tied with the Noble is the Gumpert Apollo, which too can hit a lofty 225 miles per hour.
9. Pagani Huayra
Despite its funny-looking appearance — the gaping form fascia, the antennae-like mirrors — everything about the Pagani Huayra was designed for speed (and complete luxury). From its AMG-sourced 6.0 liter V12 (with twin turbos), the Pagani issues 720 horsepower that will help it max out at 230 miles per hour.
8. Zenvo ST1
Danish boutique super car maker Zenvo is the creator of the ST1, a beast of a car that can reach 233 miles per hour thanks to its 7.0 liter V8 with both a supercharger and a turbocharger. Zero to 60 happens in under three seconds; unfortunately, Zenvo built just 15 of these monsters.
7. McLaren F1
The McLaren F1 is about as legendary as super cars get, and its presence at number six on this list testifies to that. Capable of 240 miles per hour, the F1 is still one of the fastest cars around, despite the fact that its been around since the 1990′s. A 627 horsepower V12 — courtesy of BMW — helps the F1 hit 60 in just 3.2 seconds.
6. Koenigsegg CCX
Like the McLaren F1, the CCX will make it to 60 (62, in reality) in 3.2 seconds, but unlike the F1, the Koenigsegg will do it with four fewer cylinders and two more turbos. That combination, though, will provide 806 horsepower and propel the Swedish super car upstart to a top speed of 245 miles per hour.
5. Saleen S7
Hailed as one of the few American contenders in the extreme super car club, the Saleen S7 has the chops to hold steady in fourth place with a top speed of 248 miles per hour — not shabby for a car from 2005. A 7.0 liter V8 with two turbos help the S7 reach its colossal top speed, courtesy of 750 horsepower. Sixty miles per hour is dealt with in 2.8 seconds.
4. SSC Ultimate Aero
Along with the Saleen S7, the SSC Ultimate Aero has help boost America’s presence on the fastest car list. A top speed of 257 miles per hour is good enough for a bronze, which it shares with the 9ff GT9-R, thanks to a twin-turbo V8 with over 1,000 horsepower. Notably, the Aero held the official fastest car in the world title from March 2007 to July 2010.
3. Koenigsegg Agera R
Koenigsegg was only getting started with the CCX, which was proven with the Agera R. Zero to 60 is handled in 2.9 seconds, and the top speed isn’t actually known for sure… but the highest confirmed top speed was clocked at 260 miles per hour, which places the Agera R in second place worldwide.
2. Hennessey Venom GT
Based on a heavily modified Lotus Exige body, the 7.0 liter LS7 Turbocharged V8 Twin Turbo-powered Hennessey Venom GT reportedly has the capability of hitting 275 miles per hour, though it has ‘only’ been confirmed as high 265.7 — though there’s a whole story behind the Venom GT’s quest for the fastest car title. We originally omitted the Hennessey from this ranking, since it falls quite close to being a modified car, but have reinstated it due to popular demand.
1. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport
The Bugatti Veyron was developed for breaking records, and needless to say, it’s done its job. The Super Sport — a hotter version of the already hot car — can make it to 60 miles per hour in just 2.4 seconds and has hit a top speed of 267 miles per hour. Horsepower weighs in at 1,200 to go along with its $2.4 million asking price.
Editors’ Note: This post has been updated to include the Hennessey Venom GT, which was originally omitted due to mixed views on whether it would qualify as it falls very near the line of being a modified car, which were intentionally left off of this list. However, we have revised this post to include the Venom GT due to resounding reader feedback.

Fastest Cars In The World 2013-2014
Although we have countless ways to measure a car’s performance, we’re, of course, going to go for the top speed.
This is a top 10 of the Fastest Cars In The World as of the end of 2013 based solely on the top speed a production car can reach.
The problem with finding the world’s fastest production car is the fact that it is a “production car” because there’s a very thin line from in-line car to super-race-car.
Here is a list of the 10 fastest cars in the world. The following are all street legal production cars, which have speeds that have been (mostly) verified in some one shape or another.
That means no SSC Tuatara and Hennessey Venom GT — at least not yet, but they do merit a mention in this ranking.
Top 10 Fastest Cars In The World:
#10 Aston Martin One-77 ~ Top Speed: 220 mph/354 kmh
