GM Reports May Sales At Highest Level in 33 Months

<!--leftside ends here -->General Motors reported that May 2012 sales grew 10.9 percent to 245,256 units. That represents the company’s highest sales volume in 33 months, since the previous peak in August 2009. GM attributes much of that strong performance to the fact that GM crossovers enjoyed a 15-percent year-over-year sales gain.
Chevrolet– 177,943 sales, up 10.2 percent

Chevrolet’s biggest sales gain came from the Volt electric car, which reported a year-over-year increase of 249 percent — although total sales last month were still small at 1680 units. The strongest vehicle volume came, as usual, from the Silverado pickup line, up 21.6 percent to 34,555 trucks. The Malibu sedan was a close second, with sales up 15.5 percent to 29,579 cars, followed by the Equinox crossover at 20,238 sales, a gain of 15.1 percent.
Chevrolet Tahoe sales grew 21.8 percent to 7169 units, the Traverse enjoyed a 36.7-percent gain to 9853 units, the Suburban rose 15.8 percent to 4577, the Colorado gained 28.3 percent to sell 3778 units, and the Chevrolet Avalanche saw a sales bump of 69.6 percent to 2113 — that’s after Chevrolet announced plans to nix the Avalanche pickup after the 2013 model year.
Chevrolet also had several models that suffered sales declines: Camaro sales fell 4.5 percent to 9023 units, putting the sports car 1404 units behind its arch-rival, the Ford Mustang. Corvette sales dropped 6.5 percent to 1219 cars, Cruze sales sank 13.6 percent to 19,613, and Impala sales fell five percent to 15,879 sedans.
Buick – 18,565 sales, up 19.2 percent
Buick sales were a mixed bag, with only two of the brand’s models enjoying sales gains. The Enclave crossover rose 55.2 percent to 6709 sales, and the LaCrosse sedan crept up 18.6 percent to 5663 cars. The Regal sedan, however, saw its sales slip a whopping 40 percent to just 2550 units. The Buick Verano compact sedan, which is new for this year, recorded 3609 sales; that’s less than a quarter the sales of its cheaper sibling, the Chevrolet Cruze.
Cadillac– 9871 sales, down 15.1 percent
The Cadillac luxury division once again posted disappointing sales figures, with overall volume falling 15.1 percent compared to May 2011 — and every single nameplate suffering a sales drop. The Cadillac CTS family fell three percent to just 4161 sales, the Escalade family fell 3.6 percent to 1722 sales, and the Cadillac SRX crossover fell 0.3 percent to 3900 units. Two Cadillac sedans that have been discontinued continue to find buyers: the DTS reported a meager 75 sales, while the STS sold 13 copies. Cadillac will replace those two models with the 2013 XTS, which goes just went on sale.
GMC – 38,877 sales, up 19.3 percent
Nearly every GMC model reported higher sales than in May 2011, with growth led by the Canyon pickup truck, which saw sales up 60.8 percent to 910. The Acadia crossover enjoyed a sales gain of 31.8 percent to 9128, the Sierra truck family enjoyed a 22.7-percent year-over-year gain to 13,196 units, the Terrain crossover climbed 20.0 percent to 8772 units, and the Yukon SUVs grew 2.2 percent to 4300 units. The Savana cargo van was the only model to have sales fall, down nine percent to 2571.

All great and good space but I am too stressed my own situation, idk who heard today about the news gm announcing the for sure undergoing of the final master agreement with General Motors Canada Oshawa plant where I work, we are the most decorated gm plant with top quality production since the plant opening yet due to the economy issues in the states there are intent on removing all trace from canada, today they announced that as planed a year from today the consolidated plant ( the line that builds the current equinox and impala) will be shut down forcing over 2000+ layoffs and numerous more from the local parts production factories and companies, I have been notified today I will be laid off within the next year with only hopes to ever see work in gm again with the rumors and talk of plans its too blurry to see the future right now with gm in oshawa I really don't know what I'm going to do

WoW, that's not good news 4-Sure I feel the pain & sadness in your words...The Oshawa plant was the plant that made the last Chevy Monte Carlo..

There are so many that have been hurt by the poor economy in our World, and I'm sorry that it is affecting you & so many. I hope that GM has some help for their loyal employee's & that you can find other employment that you will enjoy...Can you transfer to a USA Plant on a work visa ?

The area I'm working & reside at present on the Spacecoast just had major lay `off's when they shut down the Space Program & the surrounding area & cities are suffering 4-Sure.. I know many that lost their employment/their homes & their security...

I hope that GM may re-consider they decision with the update on sales ...If not, I wish you the very best..

According to the Toronto Sun, General Motors will be shutting down one of the lines at its Oshawa, Ontario plant, putting 2,000 workers out of a job. As of yet, no official notice has been given to the employees or the Canadian Auto Workers union that represents them, though an official announcement is reportedly coming within the next couple of days.

GM will be closing the line that currently builds the
Chevrolet Equinox and outgoing Impala models. Recently, we reported that the automaker would be adding Equinox production to its Spring Hill, Tennessee facility, but this news of a line closure in Oshawa likely means that GM's compact crossover will now be built exclusively in the United States. The 2014 Impala will move to GM's flexible line in Oshawa, where it will be built alongside the Buick Regal, Chevrolet Camaro and Cadillac XTS. The Impala will also be built at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck facility, which is currently responsible for the Chevrolet Malibu and Volt.

Another report from The Globe and Mail suggests that a third shift could be added to the flex line when production of the Impala and XTS fire up. If that's the case, employment on this line would rise from about 2,000 to 2,500 workers, and the laid-off employees from the consolidated line would have first crack at these jobs.
