RE: SS Monte Carlo
There has been a lot of debate here that the SS is not the top of the line car but rather the car with the sportier, more powerful engine package derivative.

RE: SS Monte Carlo
the SS is for the drive line and a option upgrade. mos tof the pace cars or special cars like it were the top of the line cars as they had all options.
NOW.
the SS can still have all the options it is just not one ya see with all ove the offten Most of the time they are well equipted but not full option .

Aside from the limited edition Monte's like the pace cars and the signature series Monte's, etc...
I think the leather seats were an option for the SS simply because a lot of people don't like leather seats. Leather seats in general have the reputation for being cold in the winter, hot in the summer, and if not maintained regularly they dry out and crack. Cloth seats seem to be more worry free.
Besides, they can make more money if they charge you for every individual option.

200 bucks?!?
I've spent more than that on leather cleaner/conditioner alone. LMAO.
just kidding.
Hey, since leather is just cow skin, can you just use some hand lotion instead.

I liked my 03 SS, but I must say that I am loving my 06 LT more and more each day.. I am sure that the SS would be amazing, but I love having my sunroof.. My 03 SS had it and when I saw the 06 LT with it, I just fell in love all over again.. the LT is a slightly bigger motor than in the 03 SS (.1 Liter *haha*).. The only thing I wish GM would have done is to find a way to get the 6 cylinder to do the fuel economy switch like the SS does (going from running 8 cylinders to 4).

RE: SS Monte Carlo
draxxis, you have the 3.9 engine in your car? You have one of the few Montes with the 3.9 engine like the 06 LTZ. Very rare in the grand scheme of things.
There's no doubt that Chevy considers the SS the top model. But even the "top model" has optional equipment. That's just how GM makes more money. It's also how they justify putting a sticker price of $40k on a Monte Carlo. Optional equipment.

Well for 06-07 I would say the SS is the top model. I comes with the leather, sunroof and all the other goodies. The bigger engine.

Leather was only standard on ALL LTZ's.
RJ has the dealer pamphlets on that. We can ask him.
