should i get a performance chip?

Default should i get a performance chip?
I have a 1984 Monte Carlo SS in California.. Should i get the Jet performance chip? is it worth it? does it do what it really says?

Umm I've heard that chips don't work so well on newer montes but I'm not sure about the older montes
