Question should i buy this car???

ok, so today i came across an add on my local craigslist that said "2001 monte ss $800" so i emailed this dude with my number he called me back, blah blah blah... i go to check this thing out, and its pretty beat up looking, but only has 85k on it with a clean title. its black on black leather (high sport edition) with a roof. i didn't hear the car run (the dip**** that owned the car took the keys with her to work) but from what i could see the car needs... both front fenders, a trunk lid, the resonator is rotted to ****, and the e-brake cable was hanging under the car, the kid said the cel is on for a o2 sensor, and its going to need a paint job... im going back tomorrow with a obd 2 scanner to hear it run and take it for a ride. even with the amount of work this car needs it seems like a steal to me considering i cant find one with that mileage for under 4-5 grand...
so i been searching the internet for the last few hours trying to build up my monte knowledge lol (thats how i figured out it was a high sport), and price all the parts that i could tell it needed. fenders are cheap, resonator is cheap, i could not find a trunk lid, o2 sensors are normal price, and a cheap maaco paint job will do for now... so i figure 800 for the car 800ish to fix everything myself minus spraying the color. good deal????
i was wondering if there is anything i should look out for tomorrow when i go back? what are some notorious 6th gen problems??

thank you in advance to anyone who wants to throw their 2 cents in

Take some pictures and post them up of the car but to me it sounds like a good deal as long as the motor is in decent shape and you are willing to put the work into fixing her up

How is the interior? Was the car wrecked and they just aren't fixing it? If it runs and drives ok, then I would say it is a good deal.

Can you snap some pics? I think I would like to see what an $800 dollar, under 100,000 mile monte high sport looks like.

Default welcome

Welcome to the forum. If you know someone with a garage; you may want to take it there and put it up on a lift. Take a magnet with you to check for bondo. Check all of the fluids. Go down some bumpy roads to check the suspension............
Hope this helps ? But be patient and don't get in a hurry. There are other MC's out there.
Good luck.

Can you do all this work yourself?

If yes, I would get it.

If not, then you will be paying a lot of money for all that body and work and it's not worth it.

Nice find if you can have the work done cheap. My resonator rotted out recently, it happens when you live in the rust-belt of ohio, and I just had them replace it with straight pipe for cheap. Love the sound lol.

Paint job is going to be the most expensive thing unless you know someone.

x2

If your a handy guy and you enjoy spending time with the car then it sounds like a steal. It'll likely be a little problematic

let me simplify, if you buy an $800 car you get an $800 car period. there has got to be something horribly wrong here, be weary of this and use your head, and think all of this through. if you plan on keeping it for a long while do all the work, if not by the time you spend all the $$$$$ you might as well buy a monte thats better in shape
