Oil light

Default Oil light

I have a 97 monte carlo and
don't know where or how to turn off the oil light ...help please

Hi calalan07.
Welcome to the site.
If you're referring to the light reminding you to change your oil, you can try the easy method.
I know it works in the 2000 up Monte Carlos. But it should also work on your 97 since GM mechanics use it on mid to late 90's Pontiac Grand Prix's (the sister vehicle to the Chevy Monte Carlo).

Turn off the car so the engine is not running. Turn the key to the "run" position. The engine should not be running at this point. Depress the gas pedal fully to the floor three times within 5 seconds of turning the key. The oil life light should go out. You can now go ahead and start the car.

That Gas Pedal maneuver does the trick. The later model Monte's have the reset in the Modes Section of the Radio. Turn-on the Ignition Switch to ACCY. Press the TUNING Button IN and Hold it for 5-Seconds. The "Settings" Mode appears and Oil Life Monitor is the first one.
