Default Newbie with a 2004 Monte SS

Found this forum and it seems to be the best blace to get info. My old man recently had surgery on his back and can't drive anyme. So he gave me his car. Only problem is that I only work on pre-70's musclecars. I have very little experience with newer vehicles the exception being diesel trucks. So please forgive my ignorance if I ask stupid questions.

There's no stupid questions.
The stupid part is not asking the question and be needing what might be a simple answer from someone.

Need a stupid question?
How about the one I asked concerning how to change the Spark Plugs on the firewall side of the Engine.
I was so embarrassed when I got the answer I almost laughed at myself!

Ask away ... the guys in here have answers for everything!

Hi `mephistopeles & Welcome to the Monte Carlo Family.
(Couldn't find your first name or location : )
Sorry to read about you dad, & hope he can correct his back problem, but
not take his Monte back from you: )
Was your dad the first owner ? How many miles on your Monte ?
The 3.8 has proven to be bullet `proof, with good maintenance.
Oh, Thanks for posting pictures....It's the rare yellow & looks super.
How do you like it so far ? What mod's are you considering ?
We have several great member's with a lot of knowledge on your model Monte Carlo.
Please post your questions `if you can not find them on our MCF Search.
Explore the forum, and we will be looking forward to your future post.
Good Luck to you & your `dad.

Welcome to the forum!

Very nice car. Not many cars can pull off a yellow car without looking like a taxi, but the Monte Carlo manages to look good in yellow.

Am I correct in guessing that you have the Supercharged 3800 engine in your SS? That's what I got in my '04 SS, and I love it.

Glad to have you here! Hope you have lots of fun in your '04 SS.

Great looking Monte Carlo you got there! I especially love the racing-inspired spoilers on the 6th gens. My 6th gen (red 03 LS) had none, and I really wanted one, but never had the money to put it on.

Supercharged or not the 3.8 is a pretty solid engine, and you shouldn't need to do too much to it on the maintenance side.

If you don't know what your father has done to it so far, be sure to change the oil in the S/C housing. I don't remember what the reccomended mileage is for it, but I'm sure someone else here will jump in and let you know. A friend of mine at work has a 2005 S/C grand prix if I remember right, and his S/C needs a bushingor somethingcause it didn't get the oil changed on it ever.

How many miles are on it? Doesn't look like there should be that much, and with being a 2004 and all..

Wishing you and your father many happy/healthy miles in the Monte Carlo!

The Monte is completely stock, no sc, and only has 25k miles on it. RIght now I have a cold air intake, SLP headers and exhaust on order. I want to start with easy stuff before Istart messing with the engine. In a few months I'll probably put on a set of Intense stage 2 heads and a cam.

Anyone know of more performace sites I can go to? I have found 2(3800 Performance and Intense Racing)
Could use a few more. Thanks.
