new member working on wifes 2000 mc ss serpetine belt
Got the wife the car at a auction for 2400,been working on it ever since. The ride is to good to be true so I just keep fixing things. Water pump,heater resistor,struts,front axles.Need some help with putting on the serpentine belt. I turn the tensioner all the way down and the belt still short of going on. I checked back with nampa and they say its the right one for her mc 2000 ss.I want to thank you all for all the help because of this sight Iam a backyard mechanic.All info on belt will be awesome thanks again

Welcome to the site. Are you sure you have the belt routed the right way. Also sometimes the tensioner may move a little more than you think it can maybe you need more leverage. Just a few thoughts to check. I'm sure our members will have more suggestions.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear your Monte has had so many problems. Usually the 3800 series engines are very reliable. The heater resistors are a common problem to all GM products now.
It really sounds like either the belt is either, not the right size, on wrong, or the tensioner isn't travelling all the way.
Just taking a shot in the dark here. Is it possible the previous owner swapped in a supercharged engine, and napa just gave you a belt for a 2000 MC SS (which didn't come supercharged from the factory)? Again, just a wild guess.

I would take the belt back and habe them recheck it with another. Maybe it was packaged wrong. Or someone took it back and replaced it with the wrong one. Also cross reference the numbers on the belt itself.

the tensioner is all the way down and then some,I trashed the old belt only hade 5 ribs on it.Have put the belt on alot trying get this right so iam sure this is not the problem will check that again.maybe I should get a longer belt. Thanks for all the imput

I just had to do the same thing with mine (I also have another question posted in the tech section). What helped me get it on easier was to take the overflow reservior off. Then I could get a breaker bar on the tensioner and move it a lot easier. Mines an 03 so yours may be different. JMT's
