New Member from California
Hi guys,
I am a new member from northern california.
I have been reading this forum for a while but decided to join today (even though I do not own Monte Carlo yet)
my current daily driver is 1989 Cadillac Deville with relatively low mileage and in a fairly good condition but I have been wanting to retire it from daily driver and start restoring it.
The vehicle I am looking for to replace my cadillac is of course Monte Carlo.
I really like the styling of 06 and 07 monte carlo and how it has v8 engine for SS model. But I also like styling of 2000-2005 monte carlo as well (very NASCAR looking)
however, I have heard about the infamous recall regarding fire on all GM vehicles equipped with 3800 Engine. I have heard many fire stories that happened to few monte carlo, few buick regal, and some pontiac grand prix.
so, is the really something I should worry about?
serious enough to just limit my choice and to look for 06 and 07 monte?
anyways I am hoping to learn more about Monte from this forum!

The recall was simply because it COULD start a fire, but there were absolutely zero reports of fires caused by the recall. It was just the chance that oil could get onto a manifold and if it was hot enough could ignite, but your car would have to have issues, and running way to hot to begin with lol
Those fires were probably owner related that you heard about. It's not like we are driving Ferraris
I think you would be completely happy with any 3800 powered Monte Carlo, Especially the Supercharged versions (04-05). Should be able to get a nice one for a good price also.
