Greeting from Hungary!

I am Peter the proud owner of my 3rd Monte. 42 years old.

Previously I had a 78 and later a 79 both from Switzerland.
I wanted something really special, but could not cure myself from Monte fever.
I decided to find a 73 in bad shape bringing it across the big water and restore it to its original glory.
Been looking for years, then finally found one in Illinois.
It was cheap enough, the body was literally rust free (from the pictures) with cheap paint.
The engine had been cooked on the highway which was also a bonus.
I decided to buy it, which was in 2014.

The restoration of the car has been started in 2015.
We've been through a lot.
Made new friends and enemies. There were other real life events came up, but never gave up on the project.
Now I can see the end of the tunnel, we are getting close to the end.
It had full frame off, changed every parts including suspension, brake, engine.
Only the bare block has been reused from the original.
The car roared up in may. The engine is broke in and all runs smooth.
Now we are waiting for the paint job to be done and the interior will be finished soon...

78 Monte Carlo 305cui (2001-2010):



Unfortunately this ride has been stolen and ended up like this



Then in 2011 I bought this nice 79. It was also a 305 v8

It was kinda boring to me had nothing "special about it", so i sold it to someone in Germany and then came up with the idea of the restoration of a 2nd gen Monte (350 V8)

I bought it off ebay in 2014. It had stuck engine, dangerously used suspension, some dents and bumps, cracked windshield, and the interior was a rat shelter.


Right now we are waiting for the paint and the interior to be finished.

The engine is already running nice. Still, due to the age of the car I cannot get a license plate in my country, until it is not fully restored as oldtimer class vehicle.

Nice, looks like it's set up to cruise. I like the blue. I used to have a set of wheels like those on a red car. With T/As also.

Does your antique license limit your usage? Beside the limits of your fuel cost.

Sorry about your '78, looked good.

 

There is no limitation with the antique license, with car insurance.
However you can have "hobby car" category insurance which is dirt cheap, but you have 5000 or 10000 km / year limit, but noone cares if you exceed.

My wife is very Hungarian. She was born here in Canada, but English is a second language to her - raised in a very Hungarian household. I don't speak much of it myself, But I've picked up all the swear words. From what I can tell, Hungarians are very vulgar. I can't believe she talks to her father like that! I've also understood what I've heard Hungarian Olympic athletes say into the camera...
