Default NEW 06 SS OWNER..

I pick up my new Monte Carlo SS today. Red.. loaded.. V8.. can't wait!!.. I have been waiting for a V8 front wheel drive car. Winters here call for 4x4 or front wheel drives. This car is awsome. can't wait to start mods on her.

anyone have a list of URL's where you can get mods? exhaust, CAI, computer programers?? any info would rock!..

thanks in advance..

Welcome to MCF!!!

Not too many mods out there for the V8, but I am sure they will start hitting the market soon...

I just saw today that PFYC has a programmer for it...

magnaflow is supposed to be coming out with a cat back system soon. K&N has a CAI, so does Cold Air Inductions http://www.coldairinductions.com/W-B...oldAirBox.html

I drove the ss before buying my LTZ and wasn't impressed. For a 5.3 v-8 my 3.9 v-6 will almost stay with it. I think 0-60 time are 5.6 for v-8 and like 6.3 for v-6. Wasn't enough of a difference for me to notice. Although I do love the sound of the v-8's exhaust.

your butt dyno must be off.. 61 HP difference. and 81 FT-LBS difference.

______________SS____________________LTZ___________ __
Displacement ...5.3 liters......................... 3.9 liters
Horsepower .....303 hp @ 5600 rpm ...........242 hp @ 6000 rpm
Torque ...........323 ft-lbs. @ 4400 rpm ......242 ft-lbs. @ 4800 rpm

PLUS the mods you do to a V8 make more HP vs. the 6 cyl.

now i am in NO way bashing the V6 power plants. they are a great motor. i have has a few GM cars with them, very good motors. But if you are talking HP the the V8 takes the win easy..

Pure HP #'s mean nothing. The ss is geared higher which would probably take the v-6 on the highway but in around town driving I wan't impressed with the 61hp difference. Felt more like 10-20. Very unimpressed. Also I know quite a few people who aren't getting the gas mileage stated with the v-8's. Not bashing the motor but it just isn't impressive enough to me for the premium of almost $4k over the LTZ. Plus the options on an SS are standard on LTZ which doesn't make sense to me. I.E.- leather, rearview auto dim mirror, heated outside mirrors, etc.

Oh...the little 8 cyl is just waiting for the leash to be taken off it. I'm sure once mods start coming out for it, we'll really see what she can do. I'm not sure how gearing is different from the 3.8 to the 3.9, but my '05 LT gets off the line and goes, but lack something major when it comes to midrange pull. I can speculate that the new SS does not have that problem.

But hey, were just expressing our opinions here, right? My salesman told me that he took one of the new SS models out for a spin and was impressed with the pull the car had, but the torque-steer bothered him. Is "around town driving" really the best comparison between mills to rate the feel of the HP difference? Probably not. The track is where we separate the men from the boys.

Incidentally, I was having another pleasant light to light run with a 5.3 litre, reg. cab, short bed, 2WD silverado yesterday and we stayed nose to nose the whole time. I realize that the truck probably weighs more than my monte, but figured the 8 would make a big difference considereing I have done insane donuts in such trucks before. Later that day, I got behind a brand new black SS and he was toying with me. I had nothing on him. Yes, the LTZ has an extra 40+ hp, but still.
