Default Monte Carlo 2000 LS quick question

Good morning to all of you, my question is very simple, i have been dealing with overheating issues for 2 months now, it would be faster to tell you what hasnt been done to my car.

My mechanic is telling me my car is fine cause temp gauge after the car is warmed up,it changes from the middle line to the next one above it ( up and down). i have had several cars, different makers, and i have never seen the gauge get higher than half way. Please, all i wanna know is whether im going crazy or not.

bottom line, if you have my car also, and you are not battling overheating issues, where exactly is your temp gauge after your car is warmed up?

thank you very much in advance for your help.

Your stock thermostat is 195 degrees. That is approximately the half-way marker.

At 212 degrees your fans will kick on and cool down the car.

I would say that you are not OVERheating, but the car is getting a tiny bit warm. When was the last time you did a complete radiator flush and added ALL NEW coolant? Also making sure that all of the air bubbles are out of the system.

Default thanks

thanks for answering, except for the radiator, water pump, thermostat, radiator hoses, head gasket, coolant temp sensor, coolant level sensor and both radiator fans have been replaced.

my guy is telling me radiator is good. but after all of this work ( before the head gasket,it was almost reaching the red point) i still see on the radiator cap brown stuff like mud, be aware that i have flushed this myself like 4 times prior to the head gasket job.

whats left? only the radiator, right?. cause my fans are kicking on at half way everytime, but the temp gauge during a long trip on an expressway, car never even reaches the half way mark.

thanks once again, im just a dumb person when it comes to cars and tired of spending money and hearing all kinds of ideas.

Did you ever replace the radiator cap?

If the cap is going bad it could be losing some pressure

Default yep

i did that too, thinking it was opening up before the neccesary pressure (15 psi i believe), emptied all the gunk out of the auxiliary tank.

At least you aren't actually overheating anymore?

I don't have any other clues except maybe hook up an OBD-2 scanner that can give you a completely accurate reading of the temp to see if maybe the gauge is just off now?

Default other issue

the problem is i also have to do the lower control arms, a new egr valve plus tires, my brake light is on,etc.

i just wanna fix whats more important, and remember radiator is original.

Do those radiators have a plug on the bottom?, cause i didnt see one. but when remove upper hose and bottom hose from engine, and run water thru the upper house , the water comes out clean thru the bottom and with a good flow.

On the driver's side at the very bottom SHOULD be a drain plug. I'm not 100% on the 3400 though.
