Largest rear drag radials that fit 1982 monte
Hi guys from a new member thanks for all the welcome's. I have a question. I have a 1982 monte carlo named (diamond in the rough) that I have set up for drag racing for fun not professional. The engine is 383 stroker with all the trimings, my problem is hooking up off the line. The car has a 373 grand national rear end with adjustable upper & lower control arms & lower control arm extensions, a bow tie extreme duty 2004r tranny with a 3500 stall non lockup converter & aluminum drive shaft. It presently has 255x50x16 bf goodrich dot drag radials mounted on 8" rims with a backspacing of 4.5" & the tire diameter 26.1" tall. The distance from the inside tire sidewall to the frame is 3/16" with a 1/8" spacer tires inflated to 15lbs. According to manufactuer specs the tire has 10.3 section width. Goodrich offers a 275x5015 that has a 11.3 section width and 26.1 diameter when mounted on a 8.5" rim. I would like to use this tire on a 8" ( still within the manufactures specs 7.5" to 9.5" rim) which would cause a little more buldge according to tire rack but they didnt know how much more buldge. My question is has anyone used this tire on 1982 g body & if so what back spacing worked. I would like to use 3.75" bs but not sure if I should go to 3.5" bs, if any one has 1st hand experience on this combo any info will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Tom
Thanks Tom
I am not sure on what size of rim I have, but I'm sure I can measure tomorrow for you. I currently run 275 60 r15 nitto 555r drag radials and have no issues, which is the biggest you can go without them rubbing or sticking out.
