Default Just got a 2004 Monte Carlo SS Supercharged Intimidador

Hello, I've always wanted a Monte Carlo and I was able to pick up a 2004 SS Supercharged Intimidador for $2,400. Now I knew I would be having to put money into it to fix it up and update some things on but for the price I paid I was okay with that. So the passenger side floor pan has rusted out and there's a 4 inch hole in it. It has an oil leak, the transmission is going need work or replaced. It drives and runs fine just when putting it in reverse it shutters a bit and when getting on the interstate there's a slight clunky feeling if I gas it a little too much. It rides as if the shocks are toasted. The radiator cap has this brown looking gunk that is probably from previous owner mixing the coolant. Had to add coolant, a jug and a half of GM Dexcool to radiator and reservoir. Will be replacing the radiator and reservoir bottle. Temp gauge stays at the halfway point. Oil is clean and previous owner installed an aftermarket stereo that doesn't turn on and the 12 volt cigarette adapter doesn't work either even though the fuses are good. So will need some electrical work to get that taken care of. Body has a couple minor dents but for the most part it's pretty straight. Interior carpet is in good condition except for the rusted out area on passenger side. But heck it was $2,400. I figured if I invest some money into I'll have a nice running car that I intend to keep and hopefully go up in value. Here's some pictures. I can do some of the work myself like the suspension, radiator, water pump which I've done on my other cars. But the engine and transmission work I'll leave to a professional. Also I was wondering are all supercharged Monte Carlo's Intimidador's or are they more unique.
Well there's my intro and looking forward to spending time on the forum learning and sharing since it looks like I'll be back a lot with my laundry list of things to fix Lol.

Welcome to the forum.
What you described, this car is in very rough shape. I notice it's not sitting on the right wheels, looks like someone jacked it up on a ground effect and I believe the side mirrors are supposed to be painted gloss black.

I admit, based on what you described, I feel you may have over paid for the car. But hopefully you can make this car into your dream Monte! This forum is here to help if you have questions.

Thank you for your welcome Maniac and letting me know about the wheels. I'll have them checked out to get the right ones.

Welcome. No need to change the wheels, think hes just pointing things out.

The brown gunk you mention could be a concern. The intake gaskets on these cars like to rot. When that happens, it lets oil into the coolant. It could also just be old coolant getting nasty, it likes to do that.

These engines are pretty easy to work on. You just need to learn about them. The transmissions are notorious for failing at basically any mileage and obviously require professional repair.

You also might want to check and change the supercharger oil.

Hello Wht02monte. I'll definitely change the supercharger oil and I just measured the wheels and they're 18" wheels but have the 17" tires 235 55 17 on them. I'm about to get them replaced and am going to go with 18" diameter tires to match the wheels. Thanks for your feedback

I have never heard of 17" tires on an 18" rim. That sounds incredibly dangerous if its not just a mistake in measuring.

Apparently I don't know how to measure wheels correctly. I measured from edge to edge of the wheel and it came to 18.5". I am right this moment at a tire shop and the guy working with me is saying no those are 17" wheels and an 18" tire won't work on a 17" wheel. But something popped up yesterday where I hooked up a portable air compressor to the car battery to air up a tire and after that the car wouldn't start. I happened to be at car parts store buying the coolant for the car so I borrowed their jumper. Hooked it up and nothing, had to wait like 10 to 15 minutes. Now today I go to out to get some parts for the car and made 3 stops. At the third stop it did it again. Turned they key and nothing no dead battery clicking just nothing. I happened to be at a different car parts store. Certain it was the battery I take it inside and ask for a new battery. Instead the guy hooks it up to test it an it comes up it's a good battery and nothing wrong with it. I go online and come to find out this is something that these cars do from time to time and no one has ever found the "fix" for it. One guy said to wait 10 minutes then it will start so give yourself an extra 10 whenever you're going somewhere. I think that's what happened last night when it started up. Then I run across a guy who says when it happens to him he steps on the brake, turns the key to the on position, cycles out of park all the way down and back to park and the car starts everytime.
I did that and it started right up 👍

All I meant is those are not the wheels that came with the intimidator monte. If you are fine with them, keep them. I think they came from a 06+ Monte or Impala and those are fine. But if you are restoring to original is your goal then you will be on a hunt for different wheels.

Since you had to move the shifter to get it to start, suggests possibly a park/neutral safety switch or I believe there is a switch possibly on the shifter assembly itself. You can also try to see if it will start in neutral (cars will start in park or neutral).

Thank you and I'll look into the original wheels and will most likely swap them
