Default Introduction to my Monte Carlos

Hello all! My name is Anthony and I have been a member on here for quite a while now and I’ve posted a few questions and responded to a couple of other posts, but I don’t think I’ve ever really introduced my Monte Carlos so here goes…

Up first is the newest of the bunch, a 2006 Monte Carlo LT 3.9. I purchased this car in September 2013 with 108K miles on it. It needed a few little repairs here and there but nothing big, except for the typical transmission issues that several other people are having. Next is my 1998 Monte Carlo LS 3.1. I purchased this car as a salvage title in April 2011 from an insurance company after a total loss accident for 600 dollars. The car had 143K miles at that time. It was mostly body damage so I bought a 1995 Monte Carlo from someone off of Craigslist with a blown engine for 300 bucks as a donor car. Parts needed to repair the crash damage included…
1. Front bumper cover
2. Hood
3. Left and right headlight assembly’s
4. Right front fender
5. Driver side door
6. Driver side mirror
7. Driver side inner and outer tie rods

There is still a section of damage on the driver side quarter panel, but it looks nowhere near as bad as it did when I got the car. I removed the side molding, stuck a screwdriver in the clip hole and pried the sheet metal back into semi-normal position. I don’t have much experience in body repair for that kind of damage so it was just a goofy attempt to see what I could do. While I had the spare car I also took the wheels and tires for a spare set, the trunk release latch, and a few other pieces for myself. Then, stripped the rest of the car down selling the parts to make some money back before having the shell sent to the scrap yard. After I finished the body work and aired up the tires I took it for a front end alignment. Other than that, the only other mechanical issue I’ve had was replacing the radiator, radiator hoses, thermostat and replacing the head gasket which was cause by driving the car with no coolant for a while. I didn’t realize at the time, but the coolant level sensor was disconnected and I was a bone head and didn’t check the coolant level on a regular basis. It has been running like a champ ever since. Mods I’ve made so far…
Exterior
1. 16” Impala/Monte Carlo wheels from the 2000-2005 models
2. 1” wheel spacers on all 4 hubs
3. Shorter wheel studs to fit the spacers
4. 205/50/16 tires on the front
5. 235/65/16 tires on the rear
6. Drilled and slotted front brake rotors
7. Ceramic brake pads
8. Red painted calipers and caliper brackets
9. Red painted rear brake drums
10. Electric exhaust cutout
11. Resonator delete
12. Magnaflow glasspack
13. NASCAR style side exit exhaust
14. Monte Carlo windshield decal
15. 35% tint on the front windows
16. 20% tint on the rear windows
17. Monte Carlo spoiler
18. Red painted badges and bowtie
19. Police style push bumper
20. 6 bulb strobe light system (headlight/tail light/reverse light)
21. 10000K HID headlights
The spare set of wheels are the original 16” Monte Carlo wheels painted black with the machined lip unpainted, red painted Chevy bowtie on the center cap and Goodyear Eagle GT painted on the tires in yellow tread paint. I’ve got 225/60/16 tires on the spare set of wheels.

I also eventually plan on doing an engine swap which will be a ton of work and quite a few new parts will be needed. I’ve got a 1999 Buick LeSabre with a strong running 3800 Series II engine and transmission with less than 100K miles on it. The only reason why I’d pull it out of my wife’s Buick is because the cockpit of the car got squashed by a tree and it is no longer a road worthy car. I’ve wedged myself into it though and drive it around every once in a while to keep the fluids from crapping out as quickly. Hopefully it’s a project I can start sooner than later. I know it will be lots of work, time and parts I’ll need for the job.

By the way, you can probably tell by the pictures of this car that I’m a NASCAR fan. I know he has lots of haters out there and I understand why some people don’t care for him too much, but Kurt Busch is my favorite driver and I change the numbers on the side of my Monte Carlo as often as he does. I kind of hope he settles down in one car for a while because he’s making extra work for me by changing numbers…hahaha! Any other NASCAR fans on here? Who are your favorite drivers?

Last is my 1979 Monte Carlo 5.0. This car was a birthday gift from my uncle and it needs to be completely restored. There are not many parts that are still any good on it. The car has been sitting since 1997 and lots of animals have made it home to them. I don’t have too much to say about this car yet since it’s another project I have not had the money to start yet. For now it will continue to be a driveway ornament.

I’ve also got a 2007 Impala LT 3.9 which is my wife’s primary car.

One last one... a 1991 Camaro RS 3.1 for my son when he starts driving. His start to driving is still a few years away though, but it gives me time to get it fixed up for him. I plan on installing a nice stereo, all new speakers, an amplifier, a sub-woofer or two, a fresh paint job, new wheels and tires, maybe some racing seats and a few other things here and there.

I hope you have a good idea of what I’ve got going on with my Monte Carlos. Please feel free to leave comments telling me what you think about my cars so far, what you like or don’t like and what mods you think would be something for me to think about in the future. If you have questions about anything I’ve done or want more info/pictures…don’t hesitate to ask. I hope I can help other Monte Carlo owners about their questions and roadblocks with issues like I have been helped so much from this forum. Thanks everyone for making this such a helpful place to turn to for help.
