Hi everyone! New Member from NYC with a few questions
Hey and welcome!! I'm definitely biased to the 7th gen SS, but that's the only one I've had. :x
It does look a little Impala-ish, but it's still fast as all get out and has a decent sound. I think it's comfortable, easy to drive and handles the road like a dream. Especially for a front wheel drive car.
I like the look of the 7th because it's more modern and has more of a stream-line look with a few (for lack of a better term) "sharper" angles.
I absolutely love it and wouldn't trade it for anything.

I think there's good points and bad points to both. Just depends on your taste.
The 7th gen has the LS4 V8 engine with 303 hp. And the interior is a little more up to date version of the 6th gen interior. But the front end looks like the Impala. Some people think the 7th gen Monte's are a 2 door Impala. Those people are what I like to call, "wrong". :p Since the Monte and the Impala share none of the same parts. And parts are not interchangeable. With the V8, you start with more power. But there's not a lot of off-the-shelf bolt on mods for them. Although not impossible, as member "MillerMonteSS" has proved.
The 6th gen has the more recognizable and aerodynamic front end that was made popular on the Nascar tracks in the early 2000's. Which is one of the attractions a lot of people have to them. Even though the Monte is the Chevy cousin to the Pontiac Grand Prix, it visually doesn't share any of the same styling. The 6th gen Monte's have their own unique look not shared by any other GM model. The naturally aspirated 3.4 and 3.8 litre engines are very good on gas. Which is very important with gas prices going up now. The supercharged 3.8 can be a little more thirsty on gas, and calls for premium. The 3.8 litre 3800 series II engines have a great reputation for reliability. And have tons of mods available for them, since that engine was used in many GM models. Including the hugely popular Grand Prix. So even though you start with less power than the 7th gen's V8. You can add mods that will bring you up to the same hp. Even pass it. However, the transmissions are not designed to take a lot of high performance abuse.
Some people feel the 6th gen interior is a little outdated. And admittedly, it does tend to suffer from a monochrome color scheme. Unless you get the light interior.
The style differences between the two are a matter of personal taste. You need to decide which style you prefer.
Before you ask...
The front clip (bumper/grille, headlights, hood and fenders) are not easily interchangeable. Many people have asked about doing it. Although not impossible to do, it's more trouble than it's worth. There's a reason nobody has done it so far.

i have owned a 6th and 7th gen monte and i like my 7th better. but with gas prices you gotta consider the loss in mpg you get with the ls4. I would say if you have the money for a 7th and want a V8 go for it. i love mine
Thanks guys sorry for a little delay with reply...you are right the 7th gen does look like and kinda is an impala... thanks for the help! ill be sure to check the thread a little more also post pictures when i have made the ultimate choice! lol
7th > 6th

I don't want anyone to take offense, but I find the 6.5/7th gen to be much more upscale looking and feeling than the older gen, regardless of the shared headlights, which is literally the only thing the Monte and Impala borrow from one another (visually). Just a personal opinion.

I honestly prefer the 6th Gen, but any debate always has the, newer is better and should last longer.
2005 SS with the Supercharged Engine would be great for ya though
