hey my name is Wayne and I'm new to this forum I just traded my 94 probe for an 02 Monte Carlo SS with the 3800 series 2 engine and I have a transmission that will fit in a 96 Oldsmobile 98 which also has the same engine but I noticed the Monte has the dog bone mounts and the olds does not will this tranny work?? please says yes if not can you let me know what trannys will work? thanks

im not 100% sure but i am almost positive the electronics are different between the transmissions so it will not work.

 

my Monte has 248,000 I'm the 3rd owner . I looked at the wiring and realized its different. I called a junk yard today they helped me realize that the Monte has 2 tranny options mine is a fr9 .so now I got to search for a tranny.thanks for the help I cant wait to get her running

 

Yeah you will most likely need from a 98-02 grand prix, 00-02 Monte, 00-02 Impala

 

Thanks. How much would it be just to get my tranny rebuilt? The car moves but after a couple feet it kicks into neutral and if I shut it off and start it back it will move and then kick into neutral can anyone explains this? Is it a sensor?

 

It depends on who you have rebuild it and if you want it a rebuilt stock trans or a upgraded trans. I reccomend Dave at triple edge performance. He is an awesome guy and can build these trans in his sleep.

 

I'm going to call this shop by my house tomorrow and see what he can do for me I know he is cheap he has done transmissions for my family before, the bad is it takes him a long time to get done.im going to check out Dave thanks for the help.

 

I finally got my hands on a transmission its out of an 01 impala its not the fr9 option like mine I believe its the f83 but was told it would work just different ratios and speedo may be off but I can get it programmed I got the next week off so I m going to try to get my Monte on the road I m going to swap transmissions and do a complete fluid n filter change and oil change.my wife bought me an hid kit I got the nascar looking spoiler the other day for 40 bucks hopefully she turns out nice when I m done
