Hey there Monte Carlo owners/enthusiasts!
I would, first and foremost, like to say that based upon what I've seen in the few threads I've read that you're all a very great group of people! I've joined because in coming weeks, my Grandfather shall be passing his '86 Monte Carlo down to me. I have always loved older cars, and I'm currently in an Auto Body program at my school, and next year I'll have all the math credits needed to graduate with my diploma (Career Tech) so I'll be able to have Auto Tech along with Auto Body! (I'm a junior in high school, but please don't think of me as one of those 'children' types) This is my first year in Auto Body, but I was moved into the 3rd year Auto Body class after only a month or two in the first year class. That aside, I have roughly $6,000 to spend in customization and personalization on this car (or I will at the time I get it) and will be planning on investing more money down the road. I'm already going to paint it a different color (clear is peeling in some spots, and I don't like the baby blue color it has.. just not me) and I'm planning on putting a Magnaflow cat-back system on it to give it a little HP boost. So my first question to you guys is, is there anything that I HAVE to get checked before I start doing anything, or is there anything that you guys suggest me doing to get any better fuel economy/HP out of it? Let me know! I'll be posting in the 4th Gen forums once I get the car, so be on the lookout please! Thanks guys!

Welcome to the Forum and, yes, it's a great bunch of people here. What color are you planning on painting it, and is it an LS, SS, Aerocoupe? I've got my eyes on an 87 Aerocoupe for sometime in the future. 4th Gens are a nice looking car.

Actually, I'm sort of stumped on the color! I like darker colors, but I want this to be different than a bland gray, silver, black, etc. Sadly, I'm not sure about the sub-class; still have to find out all of the details from my grandfather! I know that it isn't an Aerocoupe though, and my guess is that it is an LS. Also, thanks to everyone for the welcomes! I agree, the 4th gens are a great looking car; the only thing is that I've heard rumors that the 80's were a bad year because all of the car manufacturers were "experimenting" and that the car is completely obsolete. Is this true, or does anyone know?
