Hey guys - got sideswiped - should i take insurance offer?
Hey guys, Im new here. And was loving my 2000 MC ss until it got sideswiped. White Monte Carlo SS, 2000, 162000 miles - no real problems, everything is nice. Good to very good condition. In Oregon, btw. The other insurance company says the ACV is $4050 (approx.) Theyre deducting $590 for damage to the bumper - I had a shop tell me it looked like a $800 job, so theyre estimate and deduction was actually very light for the bumper damage. That takes it to approx $3500 After I "buy it back" form them for $390, Im looking at getting $3100 cash. Just 4 or 5 months ago, I paid $2400 for the car to a very close friend - I got an amazing deal. The body shop said he'd buff out my side, replace my side mirror, pull out the front panel by the frint tire so it doesnt make a hideous sound when I open my door, AND fix my broken passenger power window all for $500. So....that will take me down to $2600. I'll need to eventually pay $80 for a new, damaged title for the car. So, all told....Ill end up with $2500 and the car. I may have got the car for free. Amazing. The question here, is how much more dancing should I do with the insurance company or should I just pull a Steve Miller and "Take the money and Run"? Thanks guys - I do look forward to being a member around here because I LOVE my car = thanks for any advice on the matter too Cheers

But, all told, its possible that $4000 for a 2000 MC SS with 162,000 might be a pretty fair offer for that car.
I dont think they sell for anything above $5000 unless theyre in super good condition and with less that 100k miles. So, $4000 might be a good deal.
Im in Oregon, and everything Ive seen from other parts of the country, like Ohio and the Midwest, no 2000 Monte Carlo with 162,000 miles is selling for more than about $3500.
So....thats interesting. Im getting a bit better ACV due to my state, it appears.
I was worried about lowballing me with the bumper damage they valued at $590 as the shop said it was at least $800 to fix it.
The jerks DID leave off a few power options that I had to remind them about, as well as adjust it with the mileage at the time of the accident = they were trying to use the mileage 3 weeks after the incident.
Theyve been jerking me around for weeks.
The 3 estimates I had on the damage from 3 different shops was $3100, $3200, and $3300 in damages. With the car valued at about $4000, they can total the car when its within only 70% of the ACV.
Which is terrible. But still, I appreciate any advice as this is my first accident and first experience with insurance companies.
