Hey everyone! New member, long time Monte owner here. I need some quick tips!
Like the title says, I'm new to the forums but have loved Monte Carlos for a long time.
My first was a 72 which I drove my senior year of high school...until the engine locked up. I pulled the engine and transmission, and took it to auto body class for the last semester. We ended up finding way more problems than we managed to fix, and it sat in my garage for a year before I sold it (sadly probably for an enduro/derby car ).
Later in 2005 I bought a 95 LS as a daily driver, and I also managed to find a decent 72 online in early 2006.The 72 is still in the midst of a slow restoration, but it looks very promising. The 95 however is finally down for the count. It was a good car, and over the last 8-9 years I have had many great memories with it. As it sits now, it needs a new ignition switch, which isn't bad, but the trailing arm on the passenger side is rusted completely away, and the other isn't far off. This brings me to the point of joining the forums!
I'm going car shopping friday, and there is a 2007 Monte Carlo LT I was looking at. It has 100,800 miles and looks to be in great shape from what I an see in the pictures. My question is, given the mileage and age of the car, what are some things I should be looking for? Are there common problems or issues I should be aware of? They are looking for right under 7,000 and from what I've heard from somebody who works there, they will usually throw in a good warranty for free if you are doing financing.
Thanks for your time!

Welcome to the forum!
The main thing on these cars that like to go south is the Transmission. Take it for a test drive, make sure it shifts smooth and rides good.

Welcome to the forum!
As Devin mentioned the trans is a source of an issue on these Montes.
Check when the last time the trans fluid and filter were changed (pan drop, not a fluid flush) and find out what the maintenance has been on the car. Also, it's at a mileage to justify plugs and wires being changed.
If it's been maintained, should be a great car.
If you need an idea of what to check for maintenance, look at the thread below (it's geared towards the v6 models, but lots of good stuff that apply to a v8 as well):
