Hello from Canada!
Hello everyone. My name is Ian, I'm 26, and I live in Winnipeg, Canada.
I'll cut right to it I guess. I own a 1986 Monte Carlo...basic, stock, nothing done to it. I bought it from my grandmother, of all people. She had many offers from others to buy it, but sold it to me in the end for half of what they were offering, just to keep it in the family. It has served her well throughout the years, and is in not-too-bad shape. The ceiling cloth is loose and droops down, and there's some surface rust in spots but nothing horrific and unmanageable. I'll post some pictures when I can. Also, it's got a 3.8l V6 in it, which is from what I can gather not really standard, and rather uh..."sissy"for the '86 models. But hey, it was my grandma's car :P
Anyhow, I'll be pretty honest, my plans for this car aren't fully fleshed out yet. Suggestions on where I should start are more than welcome,as isany other guidance you can offer. If you want any more info on the car, or my self, just say the word!

WELCOME!
Is your '86 the SC or LS model?
SC will have a boxy front end, like this:

LS will have a rounded/euro front end, like this:

Looking forward to seeing pics of your car! Very cool that you were able to keep it in the family.

It's the SC, with the boxy front. And yea, my grandma is pretty awesome! I'll try to get some pics up soon. It's winter here, and we had some mild days lately, which caused the car to become awfully dirty due to all the slush and muck. Gonna wash her up tomorrow.
Welcome Ian! Always great to see another Canadian around here.
I own a 2004 Monte, but the 80`s Montes (4th generation) are my favourite.
Congrats on your grandma selling you her car. Glad to hear you got a good deal on it.
My grandma was from the farm, and spent a lot of time around tractors and such. So she was into cars that could perform fairly decently. She had a 1977 Pontiac Catalina with the 4 barrel V8. If you were smart, you didn't get in grandma`s way. She`d run yaoff the roadand tell you to get out of the way.
I suspect your grandma may not be like that, but owning a Monte Carlo is kinda cool in itself.

Hi Ian, & Welcome to the Monte Carlo Family Forum.
Congrat`s on getting your Grandmother Monte Carlo &
knowing it`s history.
The 3.8 is a bulletproof engine with many parts
availiable to make it go faster/better.
pic of 86SCI love the 4th Gen Monte Carlo.
Wish you good luck, and safe miles.
We will be looking forward to your future posts & pictures.
Peace/Out/Space
Hm, thanks for the info about the engine. I'll be honest, I'm a bit of a neophyte with this stuff, but I'm reading and learning.
And Taz, my grandma is EXACTLY like that. She ran a farm for 40 years, and is one of the toughest old ladies on the planet, haha.
