Default Got A Question On Spoiler???

Hey Guys. I'm New To The Forum. Just Wanted To Know I Got A 2002 Monte Carlo SS And Was Wondering If I Can Intall A Pace Spoiler On It And Instead Of The Flat Spoiler Put The Newer Spoiler Like The One's On The 2004-2005 Pace Spoiler On It? Will It Fit The 02'? Kinda Hard To Explain But Will Apprieciete All The Help! Thanks. -Rob

JGMonte hit the nail on the head.

You have 4 holes in your spoiler that will need to get filled, and then you'll have to drill new mounting holes for the 00-05 stand-up spoiler. Plus repainting all the areas that the surfboard were touching.

Additionally, the 06/07 SS spoiler is a DIRECT fit in the bolt holes, however some parts still show through from the surfboard damaging the trunk-lid so you would have to get it painted again.

Here's pictures from my swap.

Here you will see my beautiful surfboard that I hated:

Here's some damage that will be left over after the swap:

So you have to take the spoiler off and make some fixes and then get the trunklid repainated:

But then you have a beautiful new spoiler!!!

Then the back-end of the car looks much much better

Firstly, WELCOME!!!

Second.....GOD, I love that 06-07 SS spoiler. It just looks soo much better then the pace-car style of the 00-05's. But, personally, I like the surfboard, too. I've also been thinking about going bare-assed on my '02 SS

Please don't, that bump is sooo unsightly.

thanks on the info guys. what if i only want to switch out the surf board to like a spoiler that is not of the 06 07 models but just a spoiler that has the tip. like some of the limited edition has that pointy spoiler instead of that surf board one for the 6th gen M.C. are those just like the surfboard but just with a higher tip?

I answered this in my post. You have to take the surfboard spoiler off, and FILL the holes left from that spoiler AND fix the trunk-lid.

Then you have to drill NEW holes for the new spoiler and mount.

Welcome to the forum!

Another option to weigh against the cost of purchasing the spoiler, body work and paint is to find a trunk lid (in the same color as your car) that already has the stand up spoiler on it and swapping it onto your car.

@robertkevener - First, welcome. Second, you already know the surfboard spoiler. From the factory, the other spoiler is a vertical spoiler. You have a 6th gen vert spoiler ('00-'05) and a 7th gen vert spoiler ('06-'07).
There have been some aftermarket vert spoilers.

Reviewing this thread, outside the spoiler names, you got all the info you need.
- Get a 6th gen vert spoiler, you have to fill in holes and paint the trunk lid.
- Get a 7th gen vert spoiler, direct bolt on replacement for the surfboard, but you still need to have some damaged paint issues tended to.

If you had NO spoiler, pick whatever you want. In my opinion, try and source a 7th gen spoiler. I know Chibi and I are not the only ones here that have done that. The only way to get a 7th gen vert spoiler is new through a dealer (and that's big bucks) or a salvage yard (hard to find, these babies are kinda rare). Use Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market, do some searches, make some calls.

Hope it helps.
