Yea in Chicago they are enforced big time, worst at the surrounding suburbs.

as far as tint goes--when i was calling around for prices on my 06, i asked all the shops if they'd be willing to put 20% on the front as well as the back (i think the NE law is 35 for front and 20 for back) and 3 of 5 didn't have a problem with doing it. they said they've had cars come in with much darker tint than what they put on and haven't gotten any crap from the cops. One guy said they had 1 instance where a cop came in and asked about it, all the manager said is that you can buy the illegal tint at walmart and nobody's stopping someone from buying that and putting it on in their garage...it's cheaper (less quality of course) and darker than if they'd put it on in the store. Needless to say, if it made the business money--he was cool with it.
One loophole i learned about during my search: if you go out of state and have it done, you can keep the receipt and say it was done to the car before you purchased it. one of my friends got his GTP in oklahoma i think and that's how he gets away with it

Welcome to the MCF. In Vermont we had the two plate law. But they also had a specialty plate available for the front to go over you standard issued plate. I figured two plates means you can run two cars. Fortunately I never got busted. LOL.
Here in Florida they don't issue plates. They issue TAGS. I guess Florida has to be different. Anyway only one tag in Florida. On my 87 Dippy I ran the Florida tag on the back and my Vermont specialty plate on the front as a novelty plate. I got ticketed for that. The cop said you can't run an out of state tag on the front because it is a legal tag. I argued that it was not a legal plate because it had expired long ago. He made me get out of the car and remove it or he was going to impound the car and arrest me on a nuisance charge. Some cops are just huge dicks that once you put a badge on them think they rule the place.
