Default Fixin to get my first Monte Carlo

Hey guys, I am new here just want to introduce myself. Im really looking forward to get a monte carlo. I bought a el camino when i was 15 (im 16 now) and rebuilt the whole top end just to discover the block was cracked and no good. Me not having the tools or time to do a motor swap i am selling it and im gonna buy a mid 80's monte carlo. Im really excited about it and if there is any thing i should know about the mid 80's let me know ( stuff like if the v6's are bad and to stick with the v8's vice versa etc. Stuff like that).

Thanks guys.

Welcome! I don't know enough about the 80's Montes to give you good advice, but I'm sure someone will be able to help you soon. Good luck and great choice in vehicles!

Welcome to the site - A mid 80's 4th gen SS would be awesome. Not a lot of HP from the V-8, but it's got torque, don't know too much about the V6s though.

i dont think the v6 equipped ones would be bad, if im correct they had eather the early 4.3 like whats in every blazer / s10 or a 3.8 like in the buick GN's and every newer monte.... just not as advanced induction systems. but in terms of cheap perfomance goodies finding one with a V8 is the way to go.

its a shame to hear about the el camino being a bust, i've been looking for one for a while now. their cool

Yeah total bummer with the camino, but it needs too much work and its just tad to old.

I really wanna v8 just cause Im already familiar with the small block chevys, but it seems i could get better gas mileage with the v6's. But I dont wanna compromise too much power for gas mileage

Another question i have is where the mid 80's made with manual tranny's? I would love to have a manual.
